we will learn step by step as to how you can mimic the audio and tone of an expensive microphone even with an affordable and decent audio recorder. This technique will also help you mimic particular characteristics of a voice in terms of equalization

Great video! Yes I agree: the Izotope plugins are fantastic. Of course there is much more to a microphone than just EQ. With a cheap mic you have issues like noise, resonances, distortion, etc. and if you apply extreme EQ to make it sound top professional, you get unwanted harshness and very piercing s sounds. The latter can be fixed with a nice de-esser plugin. Another issue is pop noises (p-sounds, which should be fixed with a mechanical pop filter. These are hard to fix in post, since you can only filter out the low end, but you can't fix the distortion it causes. I also recommend a nice compressor for the voice over to smooth out the dynamics. A stock plugin is just fine, but of course a great 3rd party plugin, such as the ones for example by Waves, Melda, FabFilter or Izotope are ace. I do this stuff for a living and there is still nothing like a good microphone and preamp, and a good sound technician, but yes: Izotope plugins are excellent and can do wonders.

No bro. Cheap mic plus digital EQ will not sound like a good mic. It's deceiving. Been struggling with this for years. What's not captured in the first place, is lost for good. Then there's noise. Then frequency phasing issues. Then EQ having a sound of its own. Then there's dynamics. Then digital files altering issues such as aliasing and weird artefacts. Then there's internal distortion each electronic device has. This has been long tried with plugins too. See long dead now Microphone modeler plugin from Antares. There's a more decent approach from Slate digital but they come with hardware besides emulating plugins. Then there's a nice plugin that can really be a live saver, but that won't do this job either. It's the Dynamic Spectrum Mapper. This would be the best thing to buy for a fast workaround and you still need some experience as a sound engineer. Love your photoshop tuts though. Cheers!

Haha. That's kidney money. I used to write EDM. Sonar was my DWS. Logic was too buggy for Windows at the time. I used a Rode NT1 for vocals. Amazing mic for about $200 at the time. I'm fascinated by the similarities between music and art. Both work in the realms of frequencies, only in different ranges of bandwidth. In Trance, where massive, soft/silky, luxurious reverbs can make a track, a person might dampen the low to mid frequencies on a lead synth's reverb, and dampen the mid to high frequencies on a pad to give both separation and space. It's like using Blend If to protect the lows and mids of one layer and the high and mids on another layer. Amazing stuff. Thanks for sharing this new technology Unmesh.

We all know how you got it: )
From your hard work teaching us! Gz and well earned I say. Props!
May you never run out of things to teach, all of us appreciate the simple yet concise and clear explanations you give over the years. Even if I don't have access to photoshop anymore, I still watch your videos because the techniques can translate and carry over to other software (in general of course, unless it's specific to that program. Cheers!

For those of you wondering than why the Neumann costs 36x the price of the Zoom: try put on some EQ and compression, multiband dynamics, time-based effects. It't all about the details and characteristics. For a short sample, you might get close so a pleasing sound, but when it comes to huge dynamics, low-end detail, high-end softening, cabinet resonances, pre-amp self-noise, you can't really beat a Neumann U87.

Interesting and no doubt useful But. there is nothing like using the original Neumann - audio engineering is all about the substiles, nuances and emotions that that just can't really be bypassed by using cheap equipment and making it appear to be like a qualified source. You can gold leaf a but end of the day. :) Having said that I do appreciate and like the tool. Worth talking about

Unmesh teaching us Photoshop tips, Premiere, and now audio editing. I'm pretty sure, a few years from now, he'll be teaching us how to apply curves to improve our lives. lol We appreciate you, Unmesh! Oh, and yes - I'm not doing so bad myself. Hope everything's fine with you, too'!

I've been a fan for about 5 years but I STRONGLY disagree with this one as a professional audio and mastering engineer for 20 years. plain and simple: a BIKE and a FERRARI take you anywhere you want but VASTLY and COMPLETELY different.
That U87 is delicious though.

That was literally something that I was looking for. Thank you
And sir, I have a request. There's a clear difference between your real voice and edited one.
Please show us how you make your voice so crystal clear. It will be of great help.

That's only a eq match simulation, you can't compare something that cheap to that Neumann. (and it's not a a standard for professional audio recording, you heave the Shure SM 7B that's only around 300, 400 dollars and it's sounds great on vocals.

I'm tired today, but it was a busy day. Got a pinched sciatic nerve but will hopefully feel better in the morning tomorrow. Luckily I recorded and edited a video this morning before it got bad so I should be fine this coming week.

Unmesh, you never forget to amaze me all the time: ) The most productive time that I spend is watching your videos. You are helping a million people for FREE. I will join your patreon family when I startes earning: )

I feel like your title is a bit disengenious. You at least admited the limitations. Its like saying that you can take 4k pictures with any camera. You can make any picture look somewhat good but its not the same.
reply

Sorry mate, its not worth to spend money on software. You can do it for free in Audacity graphic equaliser. For example, noise removal plugins from this developer is absolutely bllsht.
reply

Thank you Unmesh, I'll find some of my content and maybe re-edit it to make the audio quality better, I don't do any studio shoot, but I think this is useful for my gardening content

It's always about those Curvez! brother: )
But seriously amazing video as always. The quality you're producing is stunning as is the information you provide. Be well and take care!

As someone who actually owns a zoom h1n this is very useful to me. As for how i am doing, pretty bad, i keep getting blocked by girls for no reason and it doesn't feel good
reply

Zoom products have been my secret weapon for a long time. They are incredibly versatile and when combined with EQ and Compression are able to reproduce incredible quality.
reply

Someday in future I want to see you coming up with your own software company for editing, hands down that would be the worlds best. You are aspirational, level God.
reply

Amazing video as always. I'm not sure I understood though. Using this technique wouldn't I need both the $3600 and the $100 mic? I would need to spend $3700?
