In this video I will be showing you how to use GIMP, which is an image manipulation program and a great free alternative to Photoshop. This video will just be a basic beginners guide tutorial for new users to give you an introduction to GIMP to get you started.

Thank you for the very helpful and informative tutorial!!!! Wonderful. We wrote a children s book and hired an illustrator for the pictures in the book. We want 100% ownership on all copyrights involved in our future books so we want to create all of our images. We are not artist but we do take beautiful pictures. We know that we have a lot to learn since we don t have any artistic or graphic design background. We were thinking about converting our photographs into illustrations/cartoons and then adding layers/images/backgrounds to create a whole picture that coordinates with the literature/text in our books. We prefer the hide and seek type children books. There are a lot of images on these pages that one or two photos can t illustrate. We have to add a lot of images/layers etc. We have to stay within the trim sizes of our books which is 7 x10 or 8 x10 . All images have to be in at least 300 Dpi, PDF s have to be optimized, JPEG s, transparent objects and layers have to be flattened in native file before publishing, if the book uses bleed then images or elements that bleed to the edges of the pages of our manuscript has to be uploaded as a PDF, PDF s must be optimized, plus all the other fancy elements are involved. I am not sure if it s even possible for us to convert photos into illustrations for children books using Software like GIMP or others and staying within the required Trim sizes among other requirements. Any recommendations or places that you can guide me to for help? Thank you in advance!

the only thing is I'm looking for a software like gimp/photoshop that has a lasso tool included cause i like to edit photos in a way where i can collage them so by putting a 1950s woman into a modern setting of paris lets say and also as a costume designer i also like to use the lasso tool to make costume designs/illustrations and if my computer could let me download gimp that would make life so much easier and cost less money especially if the lasso tool comes free too. cause photoshop is very expensive. for some reason I've just tried downloading gimp onto my mac and it isn't letting me. my mac is currently on macOS High Sierra and unless Mac OS X is a completely different software then i don't know how to get it to download, if someone could help me out that would be great

HI, Help please. I'm new using Linux and GIMP, I need to add the brightness and contrast tool to the tool box on the left. I already tried from PREFERENCES, then TOOL BOX, then activating the icon there. And everything seems is ok, I can see immediately the icon is add to the tool box, but ohh surprise, at moment I close the box of preferences, the icons that I marked for being added disappear.... Like if I would not do anything, so I don't know what to do, what it is happening. Can you help me ? That would be great a small video about HOW to add tool to the tool box because at least on my LINUX system that is Linux Mint cinnamon, the final version, it comes with GIMP already installed, but with this inconvenience . Than you in advance for the help.

I have been using Corel Draw Paint, Photo Shop and and Pain Shop Pro since the the beginning of photo editing on computers and I must say GIMP is the right name for that program as it is indeed the cripple of photo editing... Horribly user unfriendly (why do everything so differently from other photo editing programs?) and it can not handle RAW pictures from neither my old Fuji or Nikon 3D professional DSLR camera without distorting the colors and contrast ratio.

I have used both Photoshop and Adobe, this is a great program, but it does have its own learning curve. I still like photoshop better, perhaps because I have used it more, but, I hope to use this as I can't afford the cost of the other programs. Sigh. There are a good many things missing in this program, and a bit harder to navigate, but it does the trick for good printable images etc. Thanks for the tips on getting used to GIMP:) Cheers!

Someone tell Gimp to make a graphicsdriver or envato type marketplace! Since new Gimp is better than Photoshop CS3 we should have a marketplace to get flyers from. All other sites sell PSD material, but Gimp having an official marketplace would help a lot... or if someone else developed one, they could probably make a lot of dough on commissions. Gimp flyers and business cards marketplace.

Hi my friend I like your detailed tutorials here I give it thumb up but is there a way to enlarge the boxes on the left and the right of the program in order for us to see the detailes better most of us do not have the programms you are explaining pluss the blocks in the tool boxes for example are small and tiny and look smaller on our screens if I could say so

I recently tried to round corners of an image. Ever since I did this now when I use the grow selection tool it rounds all my corners on the grown area. I went into the rounded corners settings and set to zero and this minimized the rounded corners some but they are still rounded when I use the grow selection tool? Does anyone know how to fix this????

mine doesn't look anything like that, mine is brown and flat looking, no color at all. Do you have a fancy version. I have 2.10. and it's so small, all of the icons are so small I can hardly see them. I can see your gimp images better in the small youtube screen. I wonder what the problem is with this version that I have.

Hi Loved your demo, but I wasn't sure how to import a photo or line art for manipulating. You showed how to use the text tool for creating a text image, but I need ot know how to work with photos. I tried the click, drag and drop and that seemed to work, but not sure if that's the right way to do it. Thnk you!
