Slow Reps vs Fast Reps for Muscle Growth

Slow Reps vs Fast Reps for Muscle Growth

One often overlooked variable when it comes to training is lifting tempo or how slow/fast you perform each repetition. In this video Ill cover slow reps vs fast reps, and which one is better in terms of muscle growth. The main benefits of slow reps for mass is that it increases the time under tension throughout the set. On the other hand, the main benefit of using fast reps is that it enables you to use a heavier load or perform more reps when compared to slow reps. And although time under tension is reduced when fast reps are used, this actually doesnt seem to hinder muscle growth. Thus, its clear that fast reps might be more beneficial for muscle growth. But how fast should you go and whats the ideal rep speed? Based on Schoenfelds meta-analysis, between 2 seconds to 6 seconds per rep seems optimal for muscle growth. But closer to 2 seconds (faster reps) seem to be slightly more beneficial. However, rather than obsessing over the best rep speed for muscle, a better approach would be to simply use a concentric speed thats on the faster side but enables you to feel a strong mind-muscle connection. And for the eccentric portion of the lift, make sure youre controlling the weight down as opposed to letting gravity do the work for you. Utilizing these two tips will help make the ideal lifting tempo easy to implement! LINK TO WRITTEN ARTICLE (BUILTWITHSCIENCE. COM): FOLLOW ME ON IG/FB

At the very end of the video after saying FAST IS BETTER usually. what's that? A study showing 4s eccentric phase vs 1 second eccentric phase substantially improved bicep size and bicep curl 1RM suggesting slower is better? How odd.
While the video is fine, the studies chosen are often one study that supports what he wants to hear/see. Meta-studies usually help remove these biases and are better to present as they look at many studies done, with many test groups under many different conditions to form more statistically well-rigored conclusions.
The study of fast-vs slow, he did had a 10-second concentric phase and 4 second eccentric phase, that's okay but it doesn't make sense for a few reasons.
One, most people tire quicker in concentric phase so its likely with a longer concentric time, you'll fail in the concentric before you even before to maximize stress/tired/metabolic damage from the eccentric phase, with equal times. Let alone, 2. 5x the concentric to eccentric. (Bad Research is Bad Research.

Physics has the answer;
F = MA
Greater force means more gains.
Force = Mass Acceleration
Meaning you exert a greater amount of force with faster tempos, that is, in regards to concentric movement (e. g. the push in a pushup, or the pull in a pull-up) which basically means you want to go fast here, however on the more relaxed movement is better to go slow, since speed there is just momentum and not active movement when you speed up. And momentum kills gains.
A good base is 1 4. 1 second during active, r seconds during the more passive. To use push-ups, you would push as fast as possible (without losing form) to do it in about a second, the count to 4 on the way down. I wouldnt go any less than 2/3 for that though, cause then you get into momentum.
Same principle applies for all movements. To use another example, the squat, you go down slow, and push up fast (I would go too fast here though cause of the back, and you want to prioritise form.

Diet Plan known as Custokebon Secrets kept appearing here on different youtube and I thought they were scam. However after my mate follow it, and finally lost plenty of weight by using it without starving herself. I'm persuaded. You should not take my word for it, search for Custokebon Secrets on google.

Would it be accurate to say a slower lift can be used to tire yourself out, and fast sets employed after to get the required failure volume? So you are attacking the exercises when your muscles have already become tired from the slow sets effectively doing less sets but getting more out of them.

I go for a faster lift myself, I find I like it for my martial arts training too, thats just me I thu, thanks. I was wondering what others do. I focus on just trying to do it right for my body: : if if feels right: : I just go for that too: , I listen to my body

Positive is always quicker than negative for me. Positive you're actually pushing/pulling the weights against gravity. Negative, you're letting gravity do it's thing, but you're trying to resist it by pushing/pulling against it slightly.

Very good information.
But I think that slow reps trains your endurance. Basically, you would be able to stay under tension for a longer period of time.
If iam wrong, then please correct me. It would be very appreciated.

Hi, have you thought about this kind of diet plan called the Okibetonic Secrets? My cooworker says it helps people lost a ton of weight. Is that possible? I also read a lot of great review about this diet plan. Thoughts?

This video reminds me a a concept called Power Factor Training. In that lifting a heavy weight faster requires more power. More power equals strength multiplied. so it hits the uscle even harder like a multiplication.

What is the best product or brand to lost lots of fat? I read many good opinions on the internet about how Custokebon Secrets can help you lost a lot of weight. Has anyone tried using this popular weight loss method?
