Monument Valley is located in the Navajo Nation and is one of the most stunning areas of the southwest. The landscape here is full of amazing rock formations that rise out of the barren desert and has been the backdrop for many famous movies. When you visit Monument Valley, you can take the 17 mile scenic drive that allows you to experience many different viewpoints which look out at these iconic sandstone formations. Here is what you can expect when you visit Monument Valley and be sure to see it for yourself!

Maybe everyone making videos like this is based in areas where the seasons naturally lead them to places like this, at a natural vacation time when the temps and weather are making them wish to get away from home, and conditions are most comfortable at the destination / video location. Please post the date range of when filming takes place. It may seem obvious to you, but for many of us in the frozen north of of MN who vacation in the summertime, when I start heading west & south I talk to people going the opposite direction and find out they are fleeing the unbearable & oppressive conditions. By the time I get to a destination everyone has fled.

To anyone thats planning on visiting, try to avoid driving on highway 163, which is the road that leads here, after dark. In the 2 nights I was there we came across 2 drunk driving accidents, 1 of which was pretty bad. We talked to a local at the scene who said that its a problem there and that her sister had been killed just a few weeks prior. Dont take this as me saying you should not visit, cause it is a must see place that I will return to. You should be fine driving in the day time, just be aware and careful at night especially on weekends.

Love your videos. Its so nice that you can experience places with your dad.
Monument valley is one of those magical places in the world that you have to be there to really soak it in. Its just such a spiritual place and by being there its like you can feel the energy in the history of the people that have lived there for thousands of years. One of my favorite places in the world.
Next time make sure you get some fry bread. Such a simple food, yet its just so darn good.

Wow. Like your dad, We too love westerns. Monument valley would have seen many star actors.
John Ford, director of many John Wayne movies.
Other westerns have been filmed there of course. One memorable film was a comedy western entitled, The Villian. It statted, Kirk Douglas.
Thank you so much for the time that you put into producing such beautiful episode.
Thank you again & kind regards from Adelaide, South Australia.

Beautiful video and narration. We were fortunate when we took the tour a few years back and got a picture of the Cowboy on the horse at the tip of the landscape of John Ford Point. John Ford Point one of the many icons of Monument Valley. Did you get a chance to visit Gouldings right across the highway, great Western picturesque museum there. Thanks for bring back all the golden memories. of Monument Valley.

Like always great videos and shots, thank you Josh. Weve been there about 4 years ago and will visit it again on one of our upcoming trips to the US. Have you ever visit Canyon de Chelly National Monument? Its about 1, 5 hours from Monument Valley and there you have a absolute awesome view to the Spider Rock in the Canyon. We can highly recommended this. Greets from Germany.

Great video! In relation to the Navajo code talkers, theres a Burger King in Kayenta about 30 minutes south of here that has an excellent exhibit with a lot of American and Japanese ww2 artifacts. They have things like mortar shells, grenades, and regimental flags on display. Its really well done, and yes its actually inside the Burger King.

Great video, very helpful. I tried to reserve a room at the View hotel for a date during the Summer 23 and they make you call and talk to someone on the Philippines! I wish there was a way to book directly. It was a little sketchy for me! Anyone have any suggestions? We would like to stay in a place where we had a great view. Thanks.

I was there years ago with my friend Harry but we did not do the park drive even though Harry paid the $6 at that time. He all of sudden wanted to go elsewhere so we left. I'm glad to see your video. I thought I had seen a while back in another video an arch that was in the park. You did not see an arch?

Hey Jeff and Josh. Another great video and commentary. The Wife and I went there a few years back and the Navaho with the horse was there and let my Wife get on his horse for pictures that I took from the next bluff. A real keeper photo. Anyway. keep up the great work. From Hank and Pam from South Texas.

Really awesome, thanks for sharing. Glad to see the shots of other larger vehicles on this loop.
Really glad to see this open again and people able to visit, might on my list sooner than other places.
Curious if a Class C would be ok or if there isn't sufficient space for parking?

Thanks Josh, always wanted to visit here. Looking at a photo of elephant butte on Alamy and it does look like an elephant from the front. Check out elephant rock in the Franklin Mtns. El Paso, Tx. Fun formations. Thanks again, beautiful shots. Just added this site to my must-see.

Great video! We did the sunset guided tour in September and thought it was spectacular. We had rain so we didn't have all the dust from the road but we had to be careful with the cameras during the worst of the showers. I always look forward to your videos, keep up the good work.

Out of all the national parks Ive been to I would personally say Ill never be back to monuments valley not worth it. You see everything is this park 100 miles before you get there underwhelming and Chinese made jewelry being sold at a Indian reservation. Just junk

I went to college in Flagstaff and kick myself for not making the short trip over there 20 years ago. Did you go see the Petrified Forest or the lava flows on the backside of the San Francisco Peaks while you were there? So much to see in Northern AZ.

Weve been there twice. The second time we did the jeep tour with a Navajo guide. He took us around to a few great places and then we stopped in a round natural room where we laid back closed our eyes while he sang a sacred song. Do this next time!

Road is brutal inside monument valley. All fun goes away with the bad quality of road and dusty roads. somehow the feeling is knowingly they don't want to built good road which will take away business for 4 wheel drive tours.
reply

Monument Valley is epic. Been there twice. It seems they changed the road. At least the first part seemed different than some years ago. You showed some views I did not know and there seemed to be gravel on the road.

Dang! I was just there yesterday driving from Durango, CO to Sedona, AZ! Sadly, I didn't have time to do the full loop. It's an impressive view from the hotel and, like you, I'll just have to go back.
reply

We have been to Monument Valley Twice and both times we stayed at the View. We took a guided to through the valley. They would show Movies on the wall at the Hotel that were made in Monument Valley

It's been about 30 years since I visited the National Parks in Colorado and Utah. After watching your videos, I think it's time to go back for another visit. Thanks Josh for your great videos.

Great footage and narration. Headed out this spring to check this out. How was the wind and dust on the photo equipment? Should I leave my better camera(s) at home and take point and shoots?
reply

I love your videos and I'm so excited you posted this today because I'm planning on going to Monument Valley in 2 weeks! I can't wait! Thank you for all of your videos!

Went to Monument Valley last weekend and they are no longer limiting entrance to 25 cars. There were way more than 25 cars driving around. Glad we didnt have to wait.
