Pops and I have got to be about the same age. I too remember this time as being a huge event. I was practicing for a play in the 3rd grade. Mr. Myers, ran into the auditorium and there were two television sets on high frames. He turned them around facing the chairs. It was surreal. The drum beat went on forever on television. Regular television programming was off for several days. I too saw Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald. This is definitely on my list of places to go. I want to go on the JFK walking assassination tour. Then head to San Antonio, stopping by Waco. Another huge event. I'm a traveler myself. It's all about learning. Mom and I went to the Lorraine Hotel too. Another huge event. Keep traveling. I really enjoy your travels. Thank you. Mary

This is awesome! Seems I need to play tourist in my town again, as I did not know about 1/2 of the places/things you and your Dad covered. I love that the staff at Cattleack BBQ said they would throw Pops out if he used any sauce on that beef rib. I agree. properly done, BBQ does NOT need sauce. that said, anything you do add, should enhance the flavor, but not smother it. Who knew there was a BIG EYE in Dallas? LOL Too much work from home lately. haha.

This video makes me miss Dallas so much! Really happy you got to check out the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge! I went there at day and night to get a different perspective and let me tell you it is a spectacle at night! The Dallas skyline is one of my favorites and I love the views of it you get from the bridge. I have a few videos driving around Dallas and the bridge myself. I love this video Josh! Looking forward to more Texas content!

I have the same memory as Pop on 11/22/63. They sent us home early that day and I do remember watching TV for a week over what happened, I was watching when Oswald was shot. The school I went to had just sent a letter to the White House asking for a signed picture of JFK which was something he did for schools during that time. I do want to visit Dallas someday and go to Dealy Plaza

I was 10 years old. I had gone to the restroom when a group of sixth graders walked in crying. I asked what was wrong and they said President Kennedy had just been killed. I went back to my class and told my teacher who scolded me for telling lies. Shortly after that the school principal came on the intercom and said the President had just been assassinated.

You covered many interesting places. Dallas has a LOT to see so you could not have possibly covered it in that length of time. Dallas also has some of the best variety of amazing restaurants in Texas. (It ranks pretty high in national rankings that Ive read) A couple more places that I love there are the Dallas Arboretum and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science.

Like Pop I was in school but in the 5th grade. Suddenly our teacher was called out of the room. She came back in crying and told us Pres Kennedy had been killed. We went home and were off of school and watched the funeral.
A few years ago I drove down Dealy Plaza and was surprised how small it was compared to what TV made it to be. Sad time in America.

Did you know when you were down by the MHH Bridge you were standing in the old Squatters Camp where Clyde Barrow and his family lived in a tent in the 1920s, along with many more of the poorest people in the Dallas area back then? The Bonnie and Clyde history in that region is super interesting to me. Btw Pops is a riot!

I've been in Dallas for 13 years now, the eye is actually the result of a dispute between the property owner and the city over permits. They wanted to make it a business or something but the city refused to grant any permits so they got back at the city by placing the eye there as an eyesore to troll the city.

I think I'm about the age of your father! I was in first grade, and remember asking my mother when cartoons would be coming back on. She told me to shush, because this was important. Later, I remember seeing Oswald being shot on live TV! You'd never see this today. It definitely had an effect on my life.

Lived in Fort Worth for over 30 years and spent quite some time in Dallas (unfortunately. Actually the ONLY reason to visit Dallas is to walk around Dealey Plaza, the Sixth floor and all the JFK assassination stuff. The rest of the city is not very Texan at all and rather non descript and boring.

I was 4 years old when Kennedy was assassinated. I remember seeing him make speeches on TV before then, and was puzzled by his accent. We lived in the seep south, and I didn't know anyone from New England. When he was killed, my mother walked into the room and said, President Kennedy died.

Head on a swivel when you're in Dallas! Violent crime rate in Dallas is higher than LA or New York. Interesting that people think LA and New York are more dangerous. At 16. 6 per 100, 000 population, Dallas has a higher murder rate than Los Angeles or New York City. Stay away!

As an Australian the explore relevant to JFK was very interesting. I havent seen this on any other travel video or programme on Texas. Thanks for sharing it. Never been to the US but hope to get there sometime in the next 30 years!

The red Pegasus horse statue looks like the old symbol for Mobil oil. Which makes sense considering how much oil is part of the Texas economy. Always fun seeing you and your pops having adventures together. Thanks for posting

Southfork Ranch in Dallas where the Dallas series was filmed was a lovely place to visit away from the bustling life of Dallas. Downtown in the centre some where they had a live band playing. Trip down memory lane.

Great job capturing interesting points in Dallas that actually capture the essence of this place. I actually had my first date with my boyfriend of 4 years at the Margaret Hunt hill Bridge!

I have definitely had my share of morning BBQ. You have to do it to avoid the crowds. I was going to ask how much you paid for the entire platter of food since the beef rib was $50 on its own.

I learned to drive the mule wagon to to be a Chuck wagon chef on the trail rides while I lived in Dallas. I learned several ways to cook there. Been where you guys have been this time.

We did 24hrs in Dallas back in 2017. Stayed at the OMNI and did the 6th Floor Museum. I gotta say that Dealey Plaza did have a really strange vibe about it. Kinda like a time capsule.

You can get close to (and touch) a giant eye ball just like this one in STL at Laumeier Sculpture Park, if you ever go back to St. Louis again! Just looking out for your interests.
