Beautiful! Thank you! Some, who are as old as Pops, have a large, green, souvenir pencil with Viva Hemisphere '68 and a drawing of that tower on it, from when they were a kid, traveling from Houston to SA for the event! It sits in the pencil jar in the study, as a sacred emblem of youthful days. You are correct - the same architect designed both the towers, O'Neil Ford. He has a Wikipedia article. He earned his Architecture degree through the mail from a correspondence school! The online degree of the 1920's! Apparently, it taught him well!

One of my favorite places on the Riverwalk used to be The Esquirer. It was a Prohibition Era bar and was shown in the video; it was the place with the wrought iron staircase, shown from the back. It was the best true dive bar in the country!
Then, the Texas Alcohol Board shut it down. After about 4 years, after a complete transformation, it reopened as a Millennial, douchy cocktail bar with no charm and obsessively overpriced drinks. What I used to spend in an entire night now was the price of a single drink.

San Antonio can be a very touristy city but there are many other places that are worth visiting. The Briscoe Western Art Museum has many Remington and Russell works as well as others. Very worth a visit.
And the McNay is a world class museum. The King William district has great restored old homes and has a good walking tour.
The Tobin Center is a great performance venue. Whenever I go to visit my friends who live in Alamo Heights they always introduce me to cool out of the way places.

You have to visit the Botanical Garden
Also the Japanese Tea Garden which is free, The Caverns, Six Flags, Sea World and La Cantera, Shopping Center!
For Hotels, there are different must visit Resorts like, Hyatt Hill Contry, La Cantera Resort, Hilton Resort with Water Park and Eilan Hotel, for restaurants I recommended El Chaparral and if you travel a little towards Austin is the Best BBQ ever at the Salt Lick in Driftwood Tx, Enjoy!

LOL. People are so different. Almond croissant looked gross, that Look at us, our thing is so over the top! We used to have an ice cream place commercial where they showed a sundae that was just pouring goopy crap onto the saucer. Wait, your sundae has a saucer! Yeah, cuz we so indulgent over the top! You're just messy.
PUPPIES! What? Oh. puffy. Never mind.

Pops almost clotheslined that jogger! Lol that whole riverwalk looks awesome! I've been to San Antonio, but never downtown. I absolutely have to go there. The grotto and the boats are too cool. And the missions look super awesome too. Would love to see a whole video on them in more detail like you said. Great video!

How to spot tourists in San Antonio: when you drive by the boots and see people around them. Long time resident from the area here. The city needs to figure out how to make that area safer since there is the exit from the mall right there. For good puffy tacos, go to Henry's Puffy Tacos or Los Barrios restaurant.

lived here in SA for 20 plus years and i give you props im so tired of everything here but you somehow managed to even make it sound interesting even to me lol
also i live like 5 mins away from rays puffy tacos, thats one of the few places i could eat from everyday and not get tired of it

I have no desire to visit San Antonio but I did enjoy your video. My father and I used to take trips together before he passed and I just think it is so special how you and your father travel together! And I loved the part on the missions. Those poor monks-their cells looks so uncomfortable!

Welcome to our beautiful city!
Next time check out the Mexican wings atop the water features by the tower of the Americas, the Pearl during farmers market on weekends, Brackenridge park, king William neighborhood which also has historic houses to tour.

If you go to SA, go in early Spring. A summer visit would be way too hot. There is plenty to do. Make sure to visit Southtown and King William.
You all should have gone to La Gloria at The Pearl! Great place for Mexican food and drinks!

It's been so long ago when we visited San Antonio, great memories, our kids always liked The Aquarena Springs. Traditional stop when we came from Austin to visit SA. It's great to see you travel with your dad again.

What did you do on vacation? Sweat and I went to San Antonio ate fake Mexican food, rode a boat in an open sewer that goes around a mall and saw a building they call the Alamo but it's not really the Alamo.
reply

Thanks for your videos, they're really well done! I grew up in San Antonio and I always try to take visitors to the boots! It's such fun to see. The Riverwalk is popular with locals and visitors alike: )

There are two free museums on Fort Sam, several others a few miles away. I do remember eating in the revolving restaurant in the tower as a kid, The Alamo is small but for sure worth seeing.
reply

Wow it is great discovering things and places in cities I have never been to. The Tex Mex food must have been off the charts. Good job finding a cave pops would go into. LOL!
reply

I think it would be fun if both you and Pops put together your own top 10 lists of BBQ places you visited on this trip. See what is the same and what is different.
reply

Do you stabilize your footage? It's all very smooth and I was wondering how you achieve it. Thank you for the amazing work and motivation to get out and explore!
reply

While downtown make sure you all check out the rampant homeless situation that the city tries to shove right outside the downtown limits! It's breathtaking!
reply

Welcome to Texas! I also recommend going to the riverwalk during the holidays around Christmas time. It's all decked out with lights and beautiful to see.
reply

I think there is a puffy taco restaurant or stand here in Southern California. It's called Arturo's Puffy Taco Stand and it's located in Whittier, CA.
reply

I live in downtown San Antonio. Love being able to walk to the river walk in the mornings when it's calm and quiet or in the evening for a night out.
reply

i lived by the missions. then now i live a block behind north star mall w the huge cowboy boots in front i hate! down town a tourist trap of crap.
reply

Did he say he drove 10 minutes to market square? Literally maybe a 10 minute walk from the alamo and it is downtown lol. What route did they take?
reply

Awesome video--Plan your next visit between Thanksgiving and Christmas--the lights along the Riverwalk are beautiful. Thanks for sharing your visit.
