What an amazing documentary. So much research, archive hunting, and amazing editing.
This film and it's historical value is an absolute work of art. Thank you.
What an amazing visionary, Ceasar Ritz was. What a drive to realize his vision on a grand worldwide scale. It is as if the Gilded-age is frozen in time and can actually be experienced in modern-day, because of Mr. Ceasar Ritz.
Such a sad ending, a man who never felt on par with his wealthy clientele. So sad, when in reality he far exceeded the majority.
There is no doubt Ritz kept an unhuman feverish pace to build his dream,
With no intention of introducing rumor into history. I wonder if Ceasar Ritz may have contracted Syphilis? His mental deterioration and rapid decline sound more like the effects of this now treatable disease. Yet the horrific truth is when left undiagnosed or untreated it is a completely devastating disease to the brain.

Very interesting anthology to high living. I wonder what are the virtues of luxury. Does luxury for the sake of luxury corrupt. It certainly isn't educative or enlightening; at the most it provides for superfluous comfort which actually dulls the senses and morals. A human being is actually able to think and react better when he is not sated or dulled by overindulgence. An extension of the maxim would be ' necessity is the mother of all invention '. More a means to squander either hard earned money or the proceeds of a fraud. You're more likely to find a collection of indolent creatures here who either wish to be seen or prey upon the others. The central premise being that class and morals can be bought or obtained by rubbing off in close encounters.

Niederwald, Switzerland is in the Rhone valley upstream from Brig. The drive along the two-lane highway is absolutely pastoral as you climb in altitude from Brig up to Obergoms, and then that magnificent up to and past the Rhone glacier. I couldn't figure out what language that lady was speaking at 3: 00, not strictly German, it is a strange dialect.

what a wonderful story. always thought the ritz was A name. not THE name of a family. back in the day, considering where he came from, it would have been said he pulled HIMSELF up by his boot straps and made something of himself. and boy did he ever. i like how his traditions/standards, are kept.

Wow, how sad so the end of his days he lived to fulfill his dream and also died with it. The only thing that a company Cesar was just that his obsession, the poor man was schizophrenic, died all alone with no family by his side. Aside from making me sad, this is a beautiful documentary.

the thing i notice very much is his amazing work ethics, so much dedication to his craft maybe it was hard but he that's the way he is, happy for his job but just one thing he forget to his busy ness he set aside his own family, and doesn't notice much his children.

I think the Al Fayed is also a very special person. He has respect for people, not only the rich. I love love the way that he doesn t wan t Mr Ritz or his accomplishments forgotten. What a sweet man. He will also be remembered for his heart for man.

The Ritz organization was bought by Marriott International. Not sure if in the interim, it was the property of Starwood s. . I presume Hoteliers do own their properties and the right to operate under the Ritz and St Regis.

At 22: 14 of the video, Chef Michael Roth tastes the food with his finger then reaches for the salt seasoning and uses the same finger to season the food. Very unsanitary! Not following Ritz s standards.
