Greeks speak English, but best be prepared, learn a little Greek beforehand. And just a tip, learn a little Greek and see how people appreciate it Jack: I finally made it to Greece in 2010 and loved everything about it! I also learned enough Greek to get by, which paid off handsomely. You were obviously in Sparta in spring, the perfect time to visit.
I only question your use of the informal ya sou instead of ya sas, the more polite form. I was corrected often by older people on this point, as it was important to them.

Wolter, I've been following you for a while and you are doing amazing things! I really appreciate your effort in learning so much about the culture of a country you are visiting. I suggest you make a trip to Serbia, we have a great history and culture, you will be blown up by our people's hospitality and friendliness towards tourists: )

I remember when Boney M visited Greece 2006-7? In a live feed they greeted people MALAKA? and quickly he was interrupted and was told it is an insult, then he said I thought it was a greeting because we have been hearing this word since we landed at the Airport.

As a Greek I ve always been wondering about how foreigners listen to our language if they haven't heard anyone speak it before and all though your accent is pretty good, somehow the mix between English And Greek made me understand it. Thank you. :)

Very helpful video! I studied Classical Greek, which helps with being able to read the writing, but not at all with actually speaking any Greek! I am in Athens now and heading to the Greek islands tomorrow. Thank you!

Thank you so much, Mr. Wolters! You're a true life saver! We're leaving for Greece in a few days and we fell behind on our language skills/learning. Your videos are the best.

Noo don't say Ya su! Say Ya sas, ya su is used between friends and towards kids! If you say ya su it'll be taken as quite rude!

if you're a girl visiting Greece you should always say thelo na gamitho when talking to greek men. They will appriciate it.
