There are a lot of native communities along the border that have treaty rights on either side. This might be one of those communities. Unfortunately those spots are used for people smuggling in either direction depending on the circumstances. So they might be keeping an eye out

They have to rely on each other for security. I don’t think they were trying to run you out of town, they were likely just making sure you didn’t pose a threat to their home. (At least, I hope that’s the case)

Many people in America feel like their communities are not safe from outsiders who maybe look like you, but it's only because of the things their neighbors and the government have actually said and done.

If someone was driving around my neighborhood filming and talking to themselves I’d probably be keeping an eye on them too! Seems totally normal they were wondering what you were doing.

You've got neighborhood watch groups, see something, say something, child trafficking, unmarked ice goons, many many reasons to question unknown people in your hometown.

If something like this ever happens to you again, try to interview the people. People that careful about a place are likely a wellspring of interesting information.

Worth a call to the police, and give them the car registration number. If you had been a lone female in the car, they may have behaved differently.

It’s hard to believe this is one of the only times people have noticed your pretty conspicuous filming and pointedly asked you about it

Has anyone seen what ICE has been up to Unmarked cars, no uniforms or badges. They have a right to be suspicious, escpecially these days.
