I lived in Savannah for 6 years and there is definitely some wonderful things about the city. It is beautiful there. You will run into a lot of nice people there and there is a lot of history. good and bad. Here's something you won't hear from the tour guides. That city is infested with crime. The first month I lived there, my car was stolen. I later found out that, that is very typical of Savannah. Also I knew people that were robbed at gunpoint and homes were invaded and one of my friend's neighbor got kidnapped. I met an old lady that was tied up in her home, left to die, while the people ransacked her house and stole her car. I heard on the news nearly every night of someone getting shot and I even witnessed some kind of drug deal gone bad where they were shooting and cars driving around the block. I could barely go outside my house without someone asking me for money. I even had a complete stranger knock on my door to ask me for money. It was maddening. I would definitely visit the city again. By the end of my six years I did enjoy living there because of the good things about the city but I don't think I will ever live there again.

I love the Lowcountry. Beaufort is about halfway between Savannah & Charleston, so you get to enjoy both cities. There are so many good eats in Savannah. I love the Olde Pink House on Reynolds Square, especially the downstairs pub, where they have piano entertainment. Elizabeth's is great for fancy eating, River Street has lots of fun places. The hospitality is the best, and all the squares are beautiful, and the shade is welcome on the hot days. The sketchy neighborhoods outside the historic district are the biggest drag. Bugs are in most places, except the West Coast. The northern states are mosquito factories, so the GA/SC bugs are OK. During low tide, the sand gnats hovering around the pluff mud can be irritating. I have toured many historic houses, and some are converted to inns, restaurants or small businesses. Don't leave without having Leopold's ice cream.

The Pirates House. deserves a 5 minutes or so video clip of its own. the legend when i was growing up in Savannah was that in the restraunt had a secret staircase that lead underground and went thru an underground corridor tunnel back to the pirate ships back on the River, should the brits or cops be looking for pirates. so they had an escape plan to get back to ships if needed, while staying at the pirates house, which was a safe house/boarding room place to get some R&R. so the legends go

For a hotel, just stay in Hardeeville, across the border up US 17, or exit 5 on I-95. During the day, park on Hutchison Island, just across the suspension bridge. Last I knew, there are a couple of free ferry boats, to take people back and forth, to River Street. Parking cost was about $5, it's probably gone up, but it's the easiest place to park, and leave the car. I lived on Hilton Head Island for 8 years, been all over Savannah.

I live in Minnesota, but I travel to all of Georgia for work. I don't find the heat unbearable even though I don't like heat. The heat in Savannah makes me feel good and inspires me to work out for some reason (florida also. Whereas the dry heat in Nevada makes me feel very tired and lazy. I find it interesting. Does anyone else experience this?

Knowing and appreciating Savannah very much, I do however object to this guys over enthusiastic comments about the place. He is talking like a sewing machine and adds his vocal highs and lows in such a way that you want to shut him up. Try to bind him up to keep his arms in place. Please comment nicely and gently.

I lived in Savannah for 11 years - LIVED! Air stinks, polluted! Water, it's filthy! CRIME! Unless you live in a gated community you can't get away from it. Check the stats on that before you visit here. It's violent crime. AND THE SCHOOLS? LOL! Visit here? Sure - your call. Live here? Stay away.

Thank you for the video. Savannah is a gorgeous City. I like the old architecture Gardens and the beaches nearby. Chicago has a lot of crime. I like the squares with the Falcons and the Spanish Moss AMD Southern oak trees. The history and Hospitality sound great. The food looks great.
