Absolutely go to grocery stores! If you have been to Paris you know that you can go through money rather quickly if you don't economize. When getting ready for our trip I came across a picnic pouch. It was a cloche bag that closed at the top with pull strings and had an insulated bottom part with a zipper to hold cold drinks- all for 15 dollars. We took everything out except two of the four plates, two of the plastic collapsible cups, and the plastic utensils. That left us room for a couple of disposable cameras and all the brochures we picked up along the way. Our hotel offered free breakfast which was fantastic and enormously varied saving us money there. But what to do for lunch? Well to get around Paris cheaply without getting lost, we decided to buy three day passes on the tourist boats along the river. When we needed a break or we were hungry we simply went to a couple of small shops and picked up fruit, cheese, and bread, some water, wine, or soft drinks and had a picnic on the river bank while awaiting the boat. We would relax and cruise from Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower and back and we were ready for another adventure. That way we had the money to enjoy the nightlife or eat at someplace more expensive for supper. Not counting air fare an hotel which was a package deal, I budgeted $200. 00 a day for expenses for the 10 days we were there and came home with 600. 00 left and a lot of great memories.

Wolter, thanks for your tips. I never have breakfast at the hotel if I have to pay for it. There is always a little place near to the big hotels to get breakfast and it is much cheaper. I do the grocery trips too and buy juice, milk, fruit and yoghurt. I also pick up the small meals that they put together in some groceries. Sometimes, I pick up food in malls and have that for lunch or dinner. Good tips for budget travellers which I am. It is good to know that I have been on the right track. That leaves me money for my tours and shopping.

I'm going back to Paris in July and one of my friends is insistent on going to at least one nice restaurant. I picked Le Georges at the Pompidou. I'm more concerned with what is appropriate to wear. It's pretty touristy. I dress well when I travel but casual. Are there other places? I look at photos and I see sports coats and I'm not sure if I should take one. I travel light with a carry on only and a back pack. I know this video is not about fine dining. Help! Suggestions? This is why I like casual places because I don't have to worry.

We usually try and find a hotel that includes breakfast and eat that. If we can't, first thing is the grocery store. We never eat much for breakfast because we're constantly moving. Fruit works amazingly well or snacks. We save for lunch and dinner, depending on days, for dinner we'll go to the store again or find a good local place. I wanna try street food next year so bad!

The grocery store thing is what I tell EVERYONE who is about to travel for the first time. The markets are great. I usually stay away from the street foods because I'm prone to Delhi Belly. But obviously, a good rule of thumb is that if you are going to go to a street vendor, go where there are the most locals.

Oh, THANK GOD you said grocery stores. The first thing we do after we check into our room is go find a grocery store, load up on oatmeal and apples, and roam around looking at the different regional brands and specialties. I would be dead on the first day if I tried to eat restaurant food for every meal. Great tips.

Informative video! But I'm a little too bothered with how the glass is right next to Caleb's left arm (1: 40. I'm always always worried somebody would knock a cup/glass over whenever they put it next to their arm. I hope it has never happened to you, but things happen, you know. Safe travels to your family!

We usually had one nice evening meal in each city we visited in Europe. However do not pass up the opportunity to visit the grocery store, great affordable selections. Also ask your host where ever you are staying we have found some very good places that did not break the budget!

Today I am in Arcos de la Frontera, Spain. Yesterday I bought a pear, a carrot and celery with about 8 stalks at a nearby fruit and vegetable market. Total cost =. 63 euros (Roughly eighty cents - usd. The single pear would cost more than that at Wegmans.

Youre so right about the bratwurst stalls. My first trip to Germany I tried currywurst for the first time from a street stall and it was brilliant. When I had it at a restaurant it was basically the same thing for twice the price.
