Have you ever thought to visit the northern islands of Scotland? Well here are some fun culture shocks (as well as fire inducing shocks) of visiting the Shetland Islands. Whether you are wondering where all the trees are, determining how old some of the stone buildings are, or just wondering how the locals just don't hug all the Shetland Ponies, here is a fun and education tourist information video on visiting the Shetland Islands in northern Scotland

This is fascinating. We want to go thanks to Jimmy Perez. I do have questions seeing hoe these folks basically live on a rock surrounded by ocean. 1. Is it expensive since common sense says most things have to be imported by ship or airplane. 2. I see long winding asphalt roads. Where does the tar and gravel and machinery come from? 3. Everything appears electrified. where does electricity come from for the inhabited islands. 4. You answered my question about beef. I assume in addition to raising sheep and goats there are cattle farmers there supplying beef. 5. Lumber to build things? I assume there is no Lowes or Home Depot so building materials are shipped in to small retailers? 6. Water? Where can you drill a well to find an aquifer in solid rock? I know my questions have nothing to do with touring the islands but more about how these hardy people have thrived. Thanks.

Great video although I'd like to point out there are things open after 5pm- the Chinese and Indian (x2) restaurants, Magnos restaurant, The Lerwick, Shetland and Grand and Queens hotel and the Steak house are open till 10-11 and the Fish and Chip shops are open till 9. Also there are 3 general shops and the pubs are open till 10pm (pubs are open till 1am when covid restrictions lift) and both the Co-Op and Tesco supermarkets are open till 10pm also.
Shame you missed my boat when you were filming at the Museum!

They have a lovely dialect - Norse-influenced Scots. 300 years ago they were still speaking Norn - the dialect of Norse spoken in the far north of Scotland and the northern isles. If you want to hear the modern version, look for Island Medics a BBC fly-on-the-wall series about a hospital there and listen to the local nurses speaking - very distinctive.

Just got back from a great holiday on these beautiful islands. more surprised than shocked, but it took three attempts to land over three days! Heavy fog. wasn't really expecting that to be such a problem in these computerised days. Hey ho, worth the wait. recommendation: Unst. gorgeous beaches.

You drive over the airport runway when entering and leaving Gibraltar to Spain.
Hmm! 1472 is not a few hundred years, which is when they became Scottish! Previously been sold as a part of a dowry in 1468 from the Norwegian King because he had no money for his daughters dowry.

I'm from Ireland but moved to the US 19 years ago. I'm kinda annoyed I didn't see more of the places closer to home. I really want to travel up to Scotland and the islands when I'm over that side again. So gorgeous.

I'm on the street very often at nights with one of my friends on bikes, most things at least from what I've seen are open past 5, plus main supermarkets and stuff only close at like 10: 30

Gibralter used to be like that (maybe still is) with regard to crossing a runway. I recall waiting ages at a red light and then suddenly a jet fighter shot past as it landed.
