Panasonic GH5 vs. Sony A7s ii Review alex: I will forever be grateful to your review. for the likes of people like me who are weighing up buying choices between black magic cinema cam. zcam. sony a7s2/3 and switching up from gh4 of old days. this is a review ive always wanted to seek. yes ive seen caleb pikes reviews. phillip bloom yada yada. but here you are comparing the gh5 to the sony and this is a blessing to many of us. i shot a documentary on the land speed records in the uk on the gh5 and was pleasantly surprised with the 4k stock. it was superb rich in colours. yet i do need to shoot in low light conditions. and well. m4: 3 often struggles until say we add on the metabones speedboosters and sigma art lense say for expamle. so genuinely thankyou for your lovely review. the footage bye the way looks really fab. and i look forward to watching your travel vids. best wishes and forever keep rolling. thanks. Uk crew.

Couple of updates.
First, that manual focus issue at 7: 11 is indeed a lens issue, and not a camera issue per se, but considering all of the Sony lenses I have used have this problem, I still think it's a relevant issue to bring up. Sorry for the misinformation though, that's indeed not a problem inherent to the camera itself, but the lenses.
Second, after more testing, I wish I had emphasized just HOW good the Dual Image Stabilization on the GH5 is. It's pretty close to miraculous. It's not exactly a replacement for a glidecam or a handheld stabilizer when you're walking around, but it's damn close. And when you're doing static shots, even on a bumpy bus or airplane, it's incredibly stable. One note though, it doesn't kick in until a couple of seconds after the camera is turned on, so just keep that in mind when you're shooting.

This is one of the best camera reviews and comparisons I-ve ever seen! Because it is based on actual usage! Many reviews are based on maybe a couple of days with the gear. Sometimes it feels like the reviewer is just listing all the specs and that-s a bout it. But this goes into depth about all the small quirks you-ve found and how it actually is to use in real life. It-s so much more useful than many other reviews. Thanks for making this.
(Yes, this is the second time I watch this. look, it just popped up in the suggestions okay! :P)

Its funny. I agree with all the points in the superiority of the GH5. But i still wouldnt trade in my a7s ii for it, ever! I just think the a7s ii produces better images, and is easily worth the bugs, which can allmost all be worked around. I think the gh5 gives a more video-like feel to the footage, and in noise areas, the noise has this awful digital feel, and there is often noise in not-perfectly lit situations. Its down to personal preferences, and for me the a7s ii is worth the hassle

EXCELLENT review. To my eye the Sony image quality blows the GH5 out of the water, however the versatility, cost and features of the GH5 are way better than the A7S II. I currently have aGH5 on loan, and can confirm that it is very good for a MFT sensor, however it just cannot match a FF sensor. I am interested to see if the Nikon D750 can be a better choice than the A7S II. One thing that the GH5 shines at is the Focus Transitions feature. Wish others would do this too.

Sure the GH5 is good in terms of usability, but then again that should be compared to the A6500. There's just no contest between a full frame vs cropped when you start looking into Dynamic Range, Low Light and Color Grading. The GH5 is one of the best video cameras for cropped sensors without a doubt and the S2 is the king of full frame. Now if Sony could just make the usability of the S3 close to the GH5

I just ordered the gh5 a few hours ago then came across your video. Nice to see I made the right choice after a full day of research. I needed the Image stabilization and weatherproofing for my hikes. I almost got the A7III but decided not too. The flip view screen is super important because I am always alone. Hope to make some great stuff with it. Thanks for all the great videos. Kevin

Sponsored by Sony. All you needed was the low light feature to stick with the older Sony camera? For serious film makers, that's a cop out. Maybe as someone who spends a lot of time filming at night and in the woods, the Sony fits your needs. But, for most film makers - who are used to controlling their lighting - the GH5 kicks Sony's SII butt.

I am a film making student. I was convinced 2 years ago to buy a Canon 5D Mark III with a Tamron 24-70mm f2. 8 and a Sigma 75-200mm f2. 8 and batteries and cards for 2200 Euros ($2490. The lenses are barely used and cost around $1200 each (new. Should I sell everything except the cards and buy the GH5 with 1 or 2 lenses?

Best real world dual camera review out here. Love the objectivity. But, honestly, man you should at least try to learn the advantages of 10 bit & color grading even if you wouldn-t use them. Additionally, I understand saturation is your preference, but damn dude. Some shots were so saturated that it looked like a cartoon
