German Autobahn vs US Interstate Highways - CoolVision
video description
China has about the same landmass as the US.
It took my last longer drive in Germany from the south to north, and back the other day, around 800km one way, with only one short comfort stop each way. It surely isnt a sightseeing tour since the Autobahn is shielded with walls or woods most of the time, but it is not stressful at all when you are used to speed and you know what you are doing. I use to have a good audiobook on such a tour, keeps your mind floating. When it gets late and traffic decreases is when the fun starts. Without trucks and much less cars you can get very comfortable at 180-200kmh, or faster depending on the car. Again, perspective. I would probably sleep on a US highway because it is so slow. I get tired much more quickly when i cant drive my own speed and dont have the feeling im actualy doing something other than holding the steering wheel. So for me slower is not safer.

so many left lane hoggers in the american videos smh. look at the german videos. almost (ALMOST) everybody is either on the right cruising, or in the middle overtaking someone on the right. even the left-lane overtakers are moving to the middle or right lane after passing the middle lane, seen at 02: 58 (car overtaking the car where video is filmed inside. He passes, then goes back in the middle, until he has to pass another car at 03: 07. he cannot go in right lane because the right lane is full and he is going faster than them, so he stays in the middle to overtake the right lane (in my opinion he could have skipped that step and stayed on the left until he passed that car too, since in front of that car, the middle looks free again. The left lane is always almost completely empty everytime i go on the autobahn -

if you grow up with the german road system, it's not a problem at all, firstly, discipline is fundamentally very important in europe, which in my opinion is the biggest difference between the two areas, and secondly, as you said, the training is better and the exam is much stricter, for example you can very quickly lose your driver's license again within the first year, there is also a penalty point system later on, after which additional training is required. If you have 6 or 7 points in your account, you will receive a decision that is subject to a fee and a recommendation to take part in a driving aptitude seminar. If you score 8 points or more, your driving license will be revoked - but only if you have previously been given permission and a warning.

All these germans acting like their superior- Driving in germany is very stressfull with all these changing speedlimits every 100 meters and the people in germany dont even know what they're doing. It sems crazy to me as a Swiss person to see germans saying they know how to drive but americans dont meanwhile in switzerland there literally exist a stereotype that germans can't drive. The no speed limit Autobahn is cool but with these germans that sem like they got their license out of the lottery it sems very dangerous meanwhile in the USA there are many empty roads (mostly with beautiful landscapes) where you wont see a single person for hours and there you can go max speed without any cameras taking a pic of you or anyone caring at all.

I think the maximum speed on American freeways can be higher. They only have to change some traffic rules:
1. Keep right as much as you can.
2. Only overtake on the left.
And of course better lessons to get your driving license (extra practice on the highway or something. The system with these two rules generates way better traffic flow and is safer, so the speed limit could be upgraded with 5 or 10 mph. Americans, what are your thoughts about this idea? I'm from the Netherlands where you have this system on the highways.

the german roads are safer because the learning process is harder and you dont learn from your parents i live in the netherlands are license system is sort of the same and with motorbikes if you want to ride a big bike you have to do all your test on a 600 or bigger but when you have your bike licence you can ride ok you are still a noob but you know how to ride

clearly this is made by proud Americans. As soon as the highway is shown, a comfy, chilly and nice music plays. And no one-s exhausted after 2 hours of driving on the Autobahn, it-s the chilliest place in the world. And the mention of the beautiful American nature might be true, but it-s not like Germany looks like a shithole

In my opinion, for anyone who likes going fast, and likes getting from point A to point B super fast, go for the Autobahn
For someone that likes steady speeds, going in cruise control, and feels a bit safer driving at slower speeds, may line the US highway system better.

Off course I take the german autobahn. Not because we can drive fast there, but only because people in EU drive much better than Americans. So it is clearly a much safer highway. And I am from Denmark, so Germany is our best friends. Also a good thing down there.

Autobahn has certain sections with no speed limit, but the culture isn't fascinated with fast cars as much as America, which has no public roads with no speed limit despite having much bigger and wider roads designed like the worlds biggest NASCAR track.
