DON'T go to SUNRISE at ANGKOR WAT! Narie: Sorry this is a very late comment and wish I found this video years ago to explain why you probably had ants in your dish. Cambodians actually eat red ants and it is frequently used in their dishes as an ingredient. I too visited Cambodia and was so alarmed to see red ants in my rice dish. But my cousins laughed and they said it is intentional. Hope that explains your bad experience with your meal.

When I was there in 2005 there were hardly anyone there for sunrise, we did encounter more on table Hill (think that's what it's called) for sunset. Tomb Raider temple is called Ta Prhom, here I was patient and sat on a wall waiting until there was no one around so I could get clear empty photos. It didn't take that long, about a 30 minute wait.

I went with my sister and best friend to Angkor Wat and we saw the sunrise. It was amazing. I loved it. Yes we had to go early and yes there were a lot of people but it was so special and beautiful. I am sorry you guys did not have a good experience. I thought it was totally worth it. Just not the coffee. It was so bad.

This is not actually Buddhist temple it is built by s
Suryavarman 2 of Tamil king. It was Bukit for Lord Vishnu a Tamil God which later they acquired and destroyed all the evidence of Tamil sculptures. This is the most proudly monument and moments of every Tamil people across the world.

On one hand I appreciate the openess for people of all likenesses to be able to visit such an amazing religious and historical and archaeological site. On the other hand I have to assume that some of the decay must be due to so many uncontrolled unguided visitors day in and out.

I'm learning about Angkor wat right now and the temple was built in 35 years while European buildings took much longer, it ha to be made so the king could peacefully be sent off and the temple's carvings used to be gold but because of so many hard the gold has rubbed off.

Nice images. Quite surprised they allow such free and easy access to the inner temples. Thousands of tourists regularly touching the ruins will cause wear and damage to the ancient carvings and reliefs. Just look at what's happened in Egypt, Turkey, and Greece among others.

My housekeeper survived Pal Pot, Me I survived four hundred hours of tree top level helicopter combat. We have pain in common but she lost her father. Now Pal Pot is buried in the Cambodian wilderness in an unmarked grave.

don't worry. i totally understand the feeling of just wanting to share a beautiful moment with a loved one or friend or just yourself! i hate when there are huge crowds. makes it feel less special
