Our van almost caught on fire

Our van almost caught on fire mark: You shouldn-t have to be an electrical engineer to do this. You are not inventing the technology. You-re just installing already existing technology and if you-re a journeyman electrician you should understand all of it and be able to read an electrical schematic and know proper techniques for making connections that won-t fail or short circuit which is one of the most common mistakes, in addition to substandard wire sizes or over sized fuses. Electrical engineers capable of designing these systems from scratch would probably be earning $200, 000 a year or more counting benefits. So it-s highly unlikely you-ll find any electrical engineers doing van installations themself. I have a five year bachelor of science degree in architecture and in the state of California I-m not even allowed to call myself an architectural graduate or anything that has any form of the word architect in the title because I-m not a licensed architect. However when it comes to engineers there-s hundreds of titles and apparently no regulation on using the word engineer in your title so I-d be wary of anybody calling them self any kind of engineer. Hey I-m an audio engineer. Jedd Clampett was a sanitation engineer

If you want to know if the person doing electrical work on your van knows what they-re doing secretly create a short and see how long it takes them to find it. Second look at their connections and see if they-re using the ones that are really fast or the ones that are really secure because if a wire comes loose it becomes a fire hazard. Tug on sone wires and see if you can pull them out. Look at the labels on the wires and then look at the label on the fuse and if the wire is rated for more current than the fuse is rated for then it-s wrong. The fuse is supposed to be the weak link. Too bad they passed up an opportunity to educate their audience rather than entertain them.

Kara & Nate learned how to take wedding photographs on the way to the wedding they were hired to photograph, so it shouldn't be a surprise that they are learning other things along the way. We can all be much safer by sitting in an easy chair and not venturing out of the house; but I like Kara & Nate's approach where they go for it while learning along the way, and making corrections including bringing in professional help when necessary. Kara & Nate; you've had quite the continuing adventure, and I thank you for sharing it with us. Stay safe and keep on adventuring.

It seems like quite a few people want us to be upset with the couple who sold us the van. Sure, we would rather not have to deal with these issues, but we are grateful that we didn-t have to build it from scratch ourselves, and we are still happy with our purchase.
The people who sold us the van told us they have been getting angry messages. This is completely unnecessary. Please feel free to express your opinions here in the comments. We appreciate you watching out for us, but we ask that you please do not contact the original owners on our behalf.

I was really sad to see that you guys barely even took a glance at Steamboat. That's my hometown and it's definitely one of the best places in colorado. Not going to lie but I think it has Leadville beat. Just saying. You guys missed out big time. Also, Nate, if you like skiing then come back to Steamboat in the winter. We are nicknamed -ski town USA- bc we've produced so many Olympians. Truly some of the best skiing in the world. Anyways, just thought you should know you missed out.

Excellent decision in getting professionals for the installs/upgrades. Some things are worth the cost to save you the massive amount of time it would take to do it yourself (speaking from experience with diy home renovations, and to not worry about the safety possibilities.
Also, laughed so hard at Kara's -I want to smell it! - And the throwback clip to the fireball. Nate's face gets me every time

I guess I-m too late for the van giveaway. I desperately need something like this so I can go visit my relatives and I haven-t seen them forever without imposing on them because they really don-t want me anyway and I-m about to be homeless again in January after six years of having an apartment I would just love to do this would be so cool. And how bad could it be for one person

Having to have the van rewired. bummer! And ummm I would poop on a newspaper, wrap it up and throw it out the window in order to avoid having to empty the commode and pee in a big gulp cup. again, throwing it out the window.
Good thing your van was fixed by pros so electrical wire thingees won't catch - won't melt. And great you have hot water!
Steamboat, CO is gorgeous!

What kind of heater is it. I'm aware of diesel and gas heaters that are very inexpensive and come from china, and the non-china heaters are around $800. Then I saw a video about a propane heater that is amazing, also $800 but so worth it and better than any of the other heaters. Now that I think of it, I think the one you got is electric. Please clarify, thank you.
