Hiking 25 Miles Alone in the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim

So I arrived at Flagstaff Greyhound terminal at 4. 00 am. After waiting for four hours, around 8. 00 am I boarded another bus to Grand Canyon Village. Once there, I discovered the trailhead of Bright Angel Trail at the village (next to Kolb Studio. When I saw other hikers entering and exiting the trail, I went to nearby Bright Angel Lodge and found out about Phantom Ranch, right at the bottom, and I was offered a bed down there due to a cancellation made within the last hour.
So I had to hire a rucksack and a pair of hiking boots, and I bought some food and started hiking down the trail. I arrived at nightfall to claim my bed for the night. Next morning, starting at daybreak, I made my way back to the rim, using the same trail, as back then I knew nothing about the South Kaibab Trail.
Duration of descent: 4. 5 hours.
Duration of ascent 9 hours.
Distance covered 19. 2 miles

Very helpful. I live in AZ but haven't done this yet. My girlfriend did it last year, just before you, but did rim to rim in one day. She's not a hiker. I wish I could share a picture of her feet from after. Ouch!

Kraig, could you make a video of you packing before going to the trails? It would be very interesting and useful. Im very curious about how you get to put all your stuff in a 40l backpack.

Nice! Did it in 2008. but from North to South. Brought back some great memories. Thanks for sharing and posting such great content. Very relaxing to watch and makes me want to get back.

There's a reason I love the beamer and tanner trails on the eastern side of the canyon -- you can do the full hike and not see another human being the entire time.
