Here's my message to a friend about things to see in SL. Best time to visit might be May (Vesak - festival of lights) or August (Esala perahara - decorated Elephant parade) due to the festive seasons. Touristic Places- Colombo - galle face is popular, but nothing special. U can try the sri lankan beach snacks: 'isso wade', 'pakoda', baked beans. - Galle - has the dutch fort. It's a beautiful town inside the fort. Hire a bicycle (150-300 rs) and spend a day inside. Hikkduwa beach is quite popular for snorkeling. - Mirissa - whale watching- Arugam bay - Beautiful beach- Trincomalee - has the pigeon Island, Nilaveli beach and a popular Hindu kovil- National parks - Yala, wilpattu- Anuradhapura - a must see. You need pay some money to get ticket to 'Atamastana' - the old city. 2000 year old towering buddist temples. It's amazing. I recommend you to hire a bicycle (300 rs) and see around. - Sigiriya - the lion rock. A 700 year old castle with pools and all on top of an isolated rock. It's expensive (2500 rs or something) for foreigners, but i think it's worth it- Kandy - the last capital of ancient Sri Lanka, has the temple of tooth, a botanical garden. etc- Ella - a few hours hike. Amazing view from the top. What's more important is the journey there. The train ride from Colombo to Ella takes like 10-12 hours. But it's one of the most scenic rides in the world. You can sit in the door of the open sri lankan trains and enjoy. I recommend u to take the train at 8 am, spend the day on ride, spend the night in a backpackers place and do the hike next day. U can take the night train back. Non- touristic places- Colombo - Try the ponnambala vaneswarar hindu temple near Colombo harbor. It's not an old one, but it's architecture is authentic 2000 year old Dravidian architecture, built purely with granite. It's amazing- Deniyana - a village of serendipity and tranquility. Quite difficult to get there, but the scenaries and beauty are amazing. I feel it as the most beautiful place in Sri Lanka. You can take a hike inside sinharaja rainforest (largest in Sri Lanka, very old and immeasurable biodiversity) from there. - Knuckles mountain range. A biodiversity hotspot, a mountain range of raninforests. Hikes and staying there is amazing. - Jaffna - full of beautiful, almost virgin beaches and a unique and different culture. The Tamil food in Jaffna is amazing. I took a group of international volunteers all around Sri Lanka. They said Jaffna was the most beautiful place they've ever seen. You can visit delft island (1 day, fort Hammenheil, Jaffna fort (one of the most intact Dutch starforts. Plan your journey on a map. The transport is quite slow, but cheap. U can get luxury buses (sleeping coach, no beds) to Jaffna and back and Ella-Colombo (return) for around 8 USDAnd feel free ask me anything you want to know. Beware of shopkeepers and bus conductors ripping you off. All prices are regulated in Sri Lanka. Look at the item to know the MRP. Don't be afraid to raise ur voice, if they try to overcharge. Bus fees are 12 rupees or something for one bus stop (2 km. For 100 km, it would be like 70 rupees on normal bus and double the amount on aircon bus. If they ask you like 100 rs for a bus stop, raise ur voice and tell them you have been living there for few years.

Hi everyone, I'm a Sri Lankan and yes we're having a horrible situation at the moment. I saw the BBC brought an Indian person and asked him to explain the situation. He said that Sri Lanka has a history of violence and Sinhala Buddhists' did violations against Muslims but that's not the truth and that Indian reporter indirectly pointed at Sinhala Buddhists for those savage attacks without knowing the exact situation here. I'm also a Sinhalese and a Buddhist and we know the importance of tourism and how it helps us to go forward as a nation. We lived peacefully and happily with everyone after finishing a war of 30 years and there was a civil war also. We don't want to establish a civil war here by pointing at other nations. So please wait for official feedbacks from the government and do not believe every single word say by BBC as they're picking people randomly and ask them to explain the situation of their neighbor country. Then people like Thusiyan Nandakumar, Member of the editorial board at the Tamil Guardian newspaper will say anything to make profits.

Our condolences to the families of the victims of today's senseless violence. While we did publish this video a few weeks ago & considered taking it down as a sign of respect, we have decided instead to keep it up but donate ALL proceeds to a charity going to the victims. We will update this post once we identify a legitimate charity/fundraising initiative. #Peace #prayforsrilanka

There's so much more in Sri Lanka that you couldn't cover. I'm lucky, my wife comes from Sri Lanka so I get the chance to explore a lot more. Also, because I spend time with my sister and brother in laws, as well as my mother in law. I get to really experience the culture.

Adam's Peak name was introduced after the arrival of the Western nations. This is a 2600 year old Buddhist temple. Srilanka is a Buddhist country as well as a Buddhist temple in this place. Please correct the mistake and give only the truth. Original name is Sri Pada
