For anyone traveling through/to Istanbul, please be aware that the region is expecting large earthquakes. These can be quite devastating (our Minister of Urban Development has said that 600. 000 buildings are expected to collapse) so just be aware, especially if you are staying in/around the city. Please make sure you are staying a newly built building (ask for paperwork if possible, have an emergency drill in your hotel or when outside (just imagine, and think of things you might need - extra meds, comfy shoes, copy of passports/paperwork etc. If you are staying for longer, please prepare a Go Bag. Tsunami's are also expected so stay away from the coast after an earthquake. Follow instructions of AFAD or local emergency officials. Also the new airport does not seismic isolators, so flight delays/cancelations will likely occur. Sabiha Gokcen has those isolators allowing the airport to continue to operate (if the runways are not damaged)

Yeah, Wardair used to pass the hard candies out on flights when I was a child going to visit my grandparents in England, but had eliminated it themselves as a cost-cutting measure just before the merger with Canadian in 1990 (which 9 years later merged with Air Canada, causing what were the three major Canadian airlines in the 70s and 80s to all become one.
A good trick if you can't get any candies or lozenges in the shops at the departure city airport, is to suck on your mouth (while holding your breath for short periods of time) as if you did have a candy, which will draw air from your inner ear to prevent a pressure difference during climb. Then, when descending, take a deep breath and try to exhale while keeping your mouth closed and holding your nose, which will force air into your inner ear and again, prevent painful pressure on the ear drum.

Thanks for the video. I hope I get to fly Azerbaijan Airlines someday. It was nice to see those A340-500s. I believe Emirates has a few mothballed somewhere too, but I'm not really sure. I was wondering what became of the Azerbaijan A345s and now I know. They may just take off one day bound for some new operator. They will then encounter some 'troubles' on the journey and will divert to Tehran from where they will 'mysteriously' re-emerge in Mahan Air colors. This recently happened to some ex-Turkish Air A340s that were stored in South Africa and were dispatched to a new customer in Uzbekistan. It's the Iranian way of getting new planes: -. Hi Noel, we have a drinking game when watching your vids on a weekend. Every time that you mention what plane you are due to be flying on and the destination you are travelling to we have to do a shot. We are only 5 minutes in and already feeling tipsy! Hiccup
Also had to mention the sucky sweets that airlines used to hand out pre takeoff/landing. Yes they are obsolete on most airlines now, flying on my hols as a child in the 80s I always looked forward to the obligatory mint imperial to aid with sore ears when pressure built up when descending. Wonder why they don t do that very often nowadays? Anyway, great vids as always. Very entertaining!

Hey Noel, since you live in the US, you can open up a Charles Schwab investor checking account that is amazing for FX when traveling and would help you in situations where you're in a different country where they only take cash (like the taxi at the end, but you were lucky they took USD.
It's great for 2 reasons:
1. All ATM fees are refunded
2. No FX fees
What I usually do is as soon as I land, I go to one of the airport ATMs and grab a little bit of cash in case the taxi doesn't take card or if there's no ridesharing.
I swear Schwab isn't paying me for this

You mentioned the A340, of which I have fond memories. I used to do the JFK- AUD (NYC -abu Dhabi) run a couple times a year, and it was always on an Etihad A340, in the absolute heyday of Etihad. I loved that plane - I didn't want the flight to end! The service back in the day was incredible. I always knew when we were almost home to 'Dhabs (US expat, as we'd fly over Mosul and the pilots would take the plane to max altitude to avoid any SAMs. The engines would scream and the sky would change to a deeper colour.

How DARE they in no uncertain terms, tell our Noel to stop filming when he does that for a living and records his flights! And how dare they kick you out of the lounge! That ain't right! However your Loo Review had me laughing and so did your meal review when you said: that's not cake! That is butter! Don't bite into it! LOL! You know I'm surprised that not alot of people have said to you stop filming. People can be so rude! Thank you for your reviews as usual. Today it's a breath of fresh air!

The food on the A319 flight looked delicious! I know you do these videos at different times so I am not sure how long a go you did this trip but quick question do you feel people are less happy when you are traveling around now. Is it just cultural differences but my impression is nobody smiles or seems to be happy to be working. Perhaps I am over sensitive. All the best to rach hope she is doing well and another awesome video thoroughly entertaining!

I disagree with your opinion about IGA and Turkish Lounge. The outstanding food selection at the TK Lounge definitely beats IGA Lounge. I agree, IGA Lounge is bigger than TK, but whenever the TK Business Lounge is packed you can always visit the TK Miles&Smiles Lounge which is identical to the Business Lounge. If you fly Turkish Business or hold Star Alliance Gold Status, don t even consider choosing IGA Lounge over TK Lounge.

Another terrific video. I find videos about unusual airlines to not so often visited places really interesting. I'd love to visit Khazakstan one day. Flights looked ok - as you say, very retro but food offerings looked decent. Very odd about the lounge - it's not as though the lounge was terrible and going to get bad reviews. You'd think they'd be used to people filming there in this modern age of YT, TikTok etc.

I don't understand cleaners who decide that they're also security. I was a cleaner at a train station for a time and I didn't give 2 shits about who was doing what. But I was collecting money for a charity outside a train station a year later and some cleaner came up to me asking if network rail knew about it. I said no because I was outside on the pavement. The police came over and told her to piss off.

Have you flown on Aleutian Airways yet? They fly from Anchorage to Dutch Harbor/Unalaska using the extremely rare Saab-2000.
I have flown on all of the Saab-2000's, and I think it is my favorite passenger prop plane.
Anyway, just a crumb for you to chase down someday if it interests you.

Now there are exceptions to this but there are too many places in the world that say no cameras and they have absolutely 0 good reason for it other than it s just our policy like what are you trying to hide? Sorry it s 2023 and everything and everyone being filmed all the time that s just life now folks just need to get used to it lol.

Well I love watching your clips they give a realand honest review. And from what you showed it looks like Azerbaijan Airlines are a pretty decent airline to fly with overall. And wow the experience in the business class lounge in Baku certainly was an interesting one with Olga LOL. Thank you again and looking forward to the next one.

You must've struck unlucky on the lounge situation. Been through IST more times than I wish to count and, on times visited, I've had zero problems sitting comfortably in the Turkish business lounge. It's excellent. I saw your last video in which you were quite derogatory about the lounge, it would appear you're in the minority.

Another great video. Can't believe they kicked you out when you weren't even filming much more than yourself! May I just say, you're editing is very clever particularly at 17: 20-to17: 24 where your commentary to camera seems completely like its all one shot, you only notice in the back ground the waitress disappear.

Old planes were designed for people who have legs. Today everyone's knees are resting in the seat ahead of them. The food looked delicious. Ignore the cleaning woman who wanted to see your video. Took a photo at the departure at at CMB once, saw a sign saying no photography, didn t see it. Guy didn t have a go at me though. Was given love hearts on Virgin Atlantic. Is the stool mean to be used as an eastern toilet? Also the seats were the same as Norwegian airs 787 s before they retired them.
