A brilliant video Noel, truly captured the F100 and the outback spirit. Great work. I used to go gliding in rural W. A. ( shout out to Narroginn gliding club). Outback is wonderful place and great people. In case you dont know, the Fokker 100/70 F28 were closely modelled on the Vickers VC10 design as a mini-VC10 and also directly borrowed the VC10 oval cabin windows and reinforcing structure - no need for a window belt line strip as found on Boeing 707, 737, 727, as the Fokker / Vickers fuselage structure was so strong. Note the tall, swept, T tail being more VC10 and less BAC 1-11. Nose section and roof very much BAC 1-11 though. Fokkers in Aus are ideal, even if they lack leading edge slats. Best wishes. My parents have retired to a cabin in the bush in Australia and I do absolutely adore it whenever I visit. Last time I visited with my family we rented a truck and took a week drive out into the outback and it was all just fantastic. Driving for 4 hours straight is nothing with such a fantastic view. The camping is also absolutely fantastic.
Qantas is really interesting. They are by no mean top of the heap and by the numbers they're not great but everything they do decide to do, they do great. if you get a snack on a domestic flight it will be some fantastic locally-made apple pie or something and not some 2 year old hardtack.

My dad worked at a public radio station/television transmitter back in the day. He pretty much worked 80 hour weeks, as his job was to watch all the screens and gauges to make sure the signals were broadcasting, and if they weren’t he would call the techs/linesmen to climb the towers to fix things. For obvious reasons his job no longer exists. Due to his work schedule is he would spend a week at the transmitter and then come home for a week. Schedules where parents have to work and live away from home can definitely be hard for families. It takes a lot of work for both parents to make things operate smoothly.

Just like working offshore in the North Sea on production platforms or drilling rigs, we work two weeks on with two weeks off (or 3 weeks on 3 weeks off) 12 hour shifts and we fly out in helicopters from Aberdeen. We work hard but we get very well paid (even myself as a steward earn a decent salary, yet essentially a cleaner, laundry, washing dishes etc. You get your small cabin with small bathroom (maybe sharing with another person. We do have recreational facilities such as gym, smoke rooms, rec rooms, cinema, just depends which platform or rig your on.

Cabin was pretty nice for what it is, which is basically a shipping container. I've seen the concept elsewhere in the world as well, be it as more of a luxury/novelty option. But having a small kitchen is certainly pretty nice for such a small space. That I have not seen in such a small hotel room yet.
In case you're interested, these shipping container hotels are fairly easy to find in Japan, as they were left intact after using them as temporary housing in times of a natural disaster.

This is my idea of a successful, informative and adventurous travel vlog - always something new, always something interesting, always something curious, always something outside your usual comfort zone. This is in stark contrast to the boring travel videos from a certain couple of Swedish extraction shuttling back and forth in Qatar's Qsuite between Seoul, Singapore and Bangkok. Give me real life adventures anytime, and something genuine that I can relate to. Kudos to you Noel!

Agreed about the Qantas club the food is shocking, if you have One World Emerald I would suggest accessing the domestic business lounge as it is much nicer than the Qantas club which is for sapphire. I have watched your videos for a while and must admit I thought you one of our Fly in Fly out or FIFO’ flights would catch your interest but I must agree, very little to do there as a tourist!

as for the Qantas lounge It’s pretty average (but you’ll have lots of high viz mining employees in the lounge which makes it quite unique compared to just about every other lounge!
The Fokkers are definitely more comfortable than the A320s (and generally not nearly as filthy)
You also did well to avoid all the rolling strikes that QantasLink had going on for a while.

Noel, I absolutely love this travel video of yours this week. Even though you were in the middle of nowhere, you still managed to have a trip that was insightful. I also love the fact that you are somewhat of a technology nerd and had one of those flying drones! And you flew from a city that one of my good friends lives in-Perth! I wished I could travel like this but budget doesn’t allow it much. Looking forward to next week.

The number of times I’ve seen Fokker and Saab planes and Embraer too in the backseat pages of various in-flight magazines here in the United States maybe in the hundreds. Never got to fly on any of them. I did get a few rides on some Short 360 planes back in the day, to and from places in Illinois, so I did get some strange rides (lovely headroom and overhead luggage space in the 360, if lots of turboprop noise.

Moved to Paraburdoo from Melbourne in 1973. well before FIFO. lived in 'Para' for 4 years then moved to Dampier on the coast for what turned into an additional 24 years. The lifestyle and community were terrific. The Pilbara region is just amazing, well worth a visit! There is a saying, You can take the boy out of the Pilbara, but you can't take the Pilbara out of the boy, which, I reckon, is so true!

Moved to Paraburdoo from Melbourne in 1973. well before FIFO. lived in 'Para' for 4 years then moved to Dampier on the coast for what turned into an additional 24 years. The lifestyle and community were terrific. The Pilbara region is just amazing, well worth a visit! Gotta say, I was bummed by the Indian Pacific video coz Noel didn't even bother to get out and see Broken Hill. But then he hits it out of the park with this beauty -- a great insight into something we never see, a company town. Just as good as his previous best, the hop around outback and northern Queensland. Thanks, Noel! One small thing you forget to tell us though: what are they actually mining

Friend of mine is a FIFO worker, he flies in on a Monday morning onboard a chartered PC12 from Cape Town to Calvinia to work there for the week, in some parts of South Africa it's pretty big - a lot of chartered aircraft there also fly between Cape Town and places like Oranjemund, Kleinzee, Alexander Bay, Sishen - mostly mineworking jobs that much alike the Australian ones.

Perth is the Fokker capital of the world now. Also W. A is the Iron ore powerhouse of the planet, Brazil is a very close second though. Then there are litterally 100s of Gold, Copper, LIthium, Potash, Mineral sand, Silver, Zinc, Nickel and Uranium mines along with a load of Gas and Oil projects both onshore and offshore. From memory I think W. A has 170, 000 fifo workers now.

Those large dumptrucks are called a euclid and u are drivin a Toyota diesel Hilux. wish they sold the latter in the US. Anyway. I'm from the SE area of New Mexico and there are several mining facilities near our town (salt, potash. Part of my family owned a salt mine for awhile and I got to sit in that massive euclid. it was amazing! Really like your content. keep it up!

Fascinating video, Noel. The accommodations look perfectly fine, but massive respect for the people working in these operations. My dad once went to Gladstone in Australia for a dredging operation from his company (Belgian dredging company DEME. It was quite an adventure, but he lost like 10 kg after that 3 month job. Thanks for another great report, see you next week!

I've watched your videos since back in the days you didn't speak and recorded the entire flight (Gap in the market for that these days ) and love them as much now as back then. The bit you talked about looking at things as if there is something there even when people say there isnt, never stop doing that Noel, wish more looked at the world through eyes like yours

Noel this was an awesome video. Really enjoyed it when you tented the work style pickup truck, rented the container room which looked very comfortable and thankfully had Aircon. Yea was quite the drive to hotel/airport. I'm surprised the mining company didn't put accommodation's near airport for the purpose of convenience. I'd enjoy video's like this one.

Loved this video Noel. I'm very familiar with Karratha, Port Hedland, Newman and Broome but have never been to Paraburdoo so this was a first trip for me. I agree with those who thanked you for the guided tour around the area. You can only see so many aircraft seats and inflight snacks and hotel rooms. This one was a treat. I love this country so much.
