Join me on this solo survival challenge where I have to locate a hidden Black Box via GPS which has just 5 survival items inside. I have to survive 24 hours - build a shelter, find and purify water, and try to survive the night on minimal gear. All without any preparation whatsoever, it was a surprise! would be cool to know just how fishing with a home made hook and line compares to fishing with a bought rod, lake or sea and how the laws differ in parts of the uk, also the basics on do's and don'ts of gutting a fish to cook straight on the fire, btw - you could have just swapped ends when the sun was is your eyes, just a thought. Also a topic I've not seen much on is dealing with ticks in ferns - I've had 10 or a more a week this summer and I just pick them off with my fingernails which I've heard isn't the best, used Jungle Formula last night and got none - though they do still climb on your clothes so best to wack what youve been wearing against a rock or wall. Great video as always and nice to see some of the tips in action ps down in Newhaven I had an ex kick me out of her house once, knowing I had no deposit for a new flat, but thanks to her I was forced to build a shelter and they've been my back-up ever since, when flats go pearshaped, or just to escape the noisey neighbours etc

Excellent challenge and more about bushcraft and survival than trying out different tents and expensive kit.
I always tell people to go to the sea if they're in a survival situation because the dispute has so many resources, as well as still being able to access inland.
I'd have scouted the water situation first, just to ward off dehydration and to hopefully build my shelter near water, as well. Then again, I'm disabled so how much I have to walk is more of an issue for me than it is for you.
I'd love to see more back to basics survival and bushcraft, using a tarp in a different way for each camp, using herb Robert to ward off the bugs etc. Literally backpack camping without all the bits and pieces.

Great video. I got hooked ever since the Swiss army knife video. Why not have your viewers submit 5-item challenges to your bride and she can decide which to do. The only thing I wondered was whether you had other items that you normally carry with you that you had to leave at home for the challenge. You seem like an EDC kind of guy (like you'd always have a knife, a lighter, and a torch in your pocket. Then again, she did ambush you at breakfast. I do think she should have brought a breakfast sandwich or something (I hope she took you out to eat. I definitely agree with the other comments that this should become a regular series! Cheers!

fun video idea, correct me if im wrong but the spot where he took the water from, looked like it was still water and not very much moving, which i thought is not ideal as it means bacteria and other debris my have been populated cause of the stagnant water. Maybe its okay cause he has tablet idk. I always thought its better to take from a lake and as he have demonstrated before, dip the edge of the bottle with the currents and not against it to reduce the debris amount coming into the bottle. Keen to know what others think and tips

I would certainly say you have a keeper there. Setting up this for you. LOVE. Though I do have to say. 27 degrees. My AC is set at that. We hit 42 C (107 F) today. Heat is relative. I will say, you have the Mrs willing to do this for you. a few times a year they can be fun. I will agree, having tools to forage for food and cook can make life just a bit better.

Mike, 3 inquiries or over sights. 1. Built shelter so far from pond; water source and cooling swims. 2. Black box. Remove foam, fill it with water and no extra trip. Went to Meijai case website, got inside dimensions, easily holds 1. 5 lt. of water.
3. Who was watching your kids Your folks or Jaxx Brother from another great great grandmother across the pond.

Thank you to Emmy! The best of effort in preparedness and the things that you have to consider and then if something is not right, you have the chance to improve on the preparedness. Impromptu is a very good idea. It is good that she knows survival/prep too. Good preparedness review and issues that arise in a bug out scenario. Very informative, thank you.

I'm in my 50's and as a kid from around 7 years of age me and friends would play and build bases (dens) in the waist lands by my estate in Cheltenham spa. And we use to see Foxglove all over the place! We use to man handle them out when building not knowing the toxicity of the plant. Amazed that we never got ill looking back.

Really enjoyed this one.
Your shelter was very good for the supplies you had.
I might have used the cordage to tie some of the sticks and Cary them closer to the lake to make the shelter. After having looked around the area a bit.
But then you may not have had the moss for filling in the gaps.

You could have used your cap as a basic filter. You showed the GPS full screen at one time, but the glare sort of washed out the details. So where did the torch come from Yes as a recap, perhaps it would have been a good idea to camp a bit closer to the lake water source.

Next time near a lake and have about 20 ft of fishing line wrapped around a stick with a hook and a weight. Find some grubs under some timber. Don't forget some sort of fire starting device. You could have fish on a stick. Keep these type of videos going. Loved it.

Wow! What a cool idea! This is the first I've seen of this kind of adventure. Kudos to your wifey for the challenge she set up for you and the items she left you to show your resourcefulness. I can see the start of a series here! Another two thumbs up Mike!

Yeah Em! Loved the look on Mike’s face when you dragged him away from the paper, and then again when you kicked him out of the car. Super fun, loved watching it. I’d like to see a 2-3 night adventure with an abundance of food resources to be foraged.

great to see em again, dont see much of her but im sure shes much more involved behind the scenes. i have a feeling this was just a warm up! my woodland is crawling and buzzing, owls chitter chatter, bats doing zoomies, foxes, badger and mozzies chomping.

I suspect that while you were walking half a mile each way to slake your thirst with rough tasting water, a certain young lady was within arm's reach of a bottle of Prosecco! Great challenge though and yes, a beach challenge would be good to watch.

During the new 'challenge season', it would probably be a good idea to have a knife and one of those belt survival kits on you at all times. As you and other bushcraft content creators have said repeatedly, it doesn't take much to be prepared.

See I would find the water and then find a place near the water to make a shelter. Then you don't have to hike so far for water. Im sure you could have found a place to make a shelter nearby the lake. Sounds nice actually. You could cool off.

Your T shirt and mesh hat makes a goodish first stage water filter, or your pants if they have a tighter weave. I'm not an expert like you but this worked for me a couple of days being lost (lost as in 'not an expert' like I mentioned)

This was the coolest thing I've seen and I love it. Great job M. It's nice to see your spouse involved. Keep those challenges coming. You guys were outstanding. Next time kiss your wife before heading into the forest. Dog house.

I was thinking why you didn't get some water first and while you were building your shelter. By the the time you were done you would have safe water to drink. Just a thought. By the way I do enjoy your videos. I learn a lot.
