I head out on a long hike with my Dog Jaxx. After the hike we headed to The Bushcraft Camp and got a fire going for a cup of coffee. It was great to get him back out to the camp again. I also review some new hiking socks I have which made a huge difference for me. They are incredibly comfortable and custom designed for those who are in the outdoors regularly on long walks and enjoy hiking

Mike, It is good to see you sharing your time outdoors with Jaxx. I have and have had the pleasure of the company of a couple of four legged companions. Belle from 2000 to 2014 and Scylla from 2014. In the Video, you mention Jaxx's 'fear' of Horses. Something I found to help Belle with her reaction to thunder and lightning was to make it exciting hence reducing her fear. As luck would have it, I was home one day when we experienced a statewide storm. Sitting outside with Belle on my lap, I would draw her attention to each bolt of lightning and clap of thunder with an excited tone in my voice. I kept this up until the storm become too intense to remain outside. I kept this up inside with the claps of thunder. After this episode, I never heard Belle carry on in an excited way in response to a bolt of lightning or clap of thunder. The most I heard was a half-hearted growl from her to a clap of thunder which sounded right overhead. You could try something similar with Jaxx for the horses. You need to make it seem like it is something exciting and not to be feared. It is good to see that Jaxx does respond to most of your calls and instructions. They can be hunt orientated which appears to be headstrong and ignoring of you. John

I thought those M and M's were boilies Mike. By the way, I was a master of avoiding blisters in the army. Always keep your feet washed and well powdered before putting socks on and always lace boots in criss-crossed fashion. You start off with two even lengths of lace after threading both bottom eyes, then criss-cross them right the way up. This was advice given to me by the chief medical officer and I was tasked with passing it on to other recruits in my squad. One more tip, some pet shops sell unction cream, this is what soldiers used to dress their blisters and trench foot with in the 2nd world war it can also be used on Jaxx's skin and is handy to have with you to treat sores and abrasions in animals or humans. It doesn't matter if the dog licks it (it's not harmful) and the licking aids healing. it's now sold as a livery cream I think but can be bought from pet shops/supplies.

Our dog won't go out in the rain, he's a tiger brindle French bull dog & he likes his chicken roasted & his breakfast steak medium rare fried. He likes grubbing around in woodland on dry days. if you put a tarp or tent up he will piss on it. He likes to doss in comfort on peoples beds while chewing the scales on my favourite Swish army knife to bits. His name is Monty and the greedy little sod would eat a horse, chew your rifle stock & piss on your campfire.

Hey Mike, i've been a fan for a while and just want to say that i love your videos. Love the bushcraft and also the photography skills at the start of the videos. I'd like to be able to make bushcraft a good hobby of mine, but as a year 11 student i never really have the time. Maybe when i finish in the army i can start a bushcraft school Anyways nice video, and it's great to see good old Jaxx again: ) take care

Hi Mike. Great Video. That Jaxx is a hoot. Please be aware of the danger of chewing on a stick I had to rush my dog to a vet when she actually got a piece of stick stuck sideways in her throat and she was gasping for air Let me tell you, that was a very, very long trip to the vet Please be aware that things like that can and do happen. ATB from Maryland USA, Jim.

Socks Yes, good idea. I do not however want my socks, or anything at all I might buy SHIPPED If I buy it on line I'd like it sent to me by post, by courier or by Royal Mail NOT by any method which used inappropriate and highly misleading american phraseology. Thank you very much.

Bet Jacks loves it when off to the woods with you. the trees are great and watching man and dog in nature is just so ethereal. marvelous and thanks again. there is a small craft type shop in our town think it's time to call in to get kitted out for the great Outdoors. cheers.

Your camp may be Dog proof but is it Jack Russel proof? As you are the pround carer of a Jack russel I feel there is a book you should read, it is called Dudley the Worst Dog in the World written by Colin Willock ( well known countryman) and all about his hooligan Jack Russel.

Always love to see Jaxx. He kinda steals the show ya know. You have trained him up good. Do you have a dog whistle or something to call him back if he should ever go off to far? Loved watching a video to relax by. I actually got up and made me a cup of coffee too
