This is the first video in a series with my Dad where we are building an off-grid one man wood cabin from reclaimed Pallet Wood that we scavenged for free. In the first episode, we show you the site that we have chosen in the woods and the type of land that we are building the cabin on. The first stage of the primitive cabin build was to collect the pallets and break them down to gain useable pieces of timber. We have no saw mill, so we need to do this stage ourselves. We then began to put together the foundations for the cabin and create a wood base for the cabin to stand on. This cabin is located at one of our Bushcraft Camp sites. So after a hard days work we got the fire going and cooked up some food on the cast iron grill. I hope you guys enjoy this cabin build series. It gives me a great chance to spend time with my Dad on this wilderness project together. Hope you enjoy coming along on the adventure

Most pallets are being rebuilt by the company who supplies them in the first place. When I was working in a pallet factory most companies were charged a 25 dollar core fee if they do have the pallet to turn back in. They lose the fee. So many companies are not too quick to give them away. Also have to be careful the pallets that were scraped altogether were ones used for transportation of dangerous chemicals like iona Ted sulfuric acid potassium sorbate and pert rate travel chloride. The wood soaks up these hazardous chemicals and the residue is released atomized and inhaled emron paint has organic accelerated hardness which is very cancerous. Not to mention any biological contamination. Well you all get the point and I can sleep easy knowing I did my best to educate viewers of the hidden hazards potentially health threatning every thing Has a cost intrinsiclyand physically

I would love to build something like that with my father and whatever more, even a paper airplane. but he's getting old and never give up on his alcoholic life. never asked me bout my school life (and I used to be a good student. he couldnt be there to avoid even the man who stole my innocence in the childhood (and he'll never know as well as my friends cuz it's in the past now. I dont talk about it in Portuguese. but God is good, mom is the best and I can build it on my own the same way I learned English by myself and have reached so many goals. nice job, brow.

Hmm. I don't know what to say: I simply love your vids and how you work with your father (that's very rare nowadays. And how the electric impact drill was used to dismantle the pallets is very clever/smart. Congrats. BUT you should/could have used some pallets for the under construction without disassembling them. It would have been a lot simpler/easier/faster and more stabil Of course the ones without pressed wood blocks should be chosen for that. Nevertheless: Great vidBest regards luck and health.

Im really enjoying your videos, guys Thank you for sharing your projects with us. Two questions: Dad, could you please show us again how you rolled up that rope? My ropes never behave that wellIm in the US and I have tons of older screws, nails, brackets, braces and generally things that can be reclaimed for projects like this one. Id like to donate them instead of pitching them out. Is there any particular site where I could list them that would reach folks in US states? Thanks again

I am so glad to see people using pallet wood I drive a security patrol vehicle. and I spend most of my night's cruising through back alleys and behind buildings. I'm constantly seeing perfectly good pallets just laying there going to waist. a lot of businesses wind up throwing them in the dumpsters. there's all kinds of thing's people could be building out of them. IT'S FREE LUMBER

looking at the difference between American outdoorsmen and British outdoorsmen, i think the British do it better. all these jack asses running around with giant diesel trucks and drunkenly firing their AR fifteens at everything really couldnt give a shit about nature or coexisting with it. of course, these dude arent exactly Ralph Waldo Emersons but theyre clearly intentional people.

REALLY looking forward to building one of these, such a great idea. could you by any chance tell me the dimensions of the base? i'm trying to figure out the size I should make, and as far as I know, I can do a 14'x14' in my yard without needing a permit. just wondering what that size would be like compared to what you're making here. Either way, Cheers, love the videos

What is the name of the electric tool like a chisel that you use to get the wood strips off the middle brace when disassembling the pallets? and thanks for showing this part of the project - the salvage was always the hardest part for me to do - ended up tearing up the wood. You guys make it slick and elegant

I love this idea. Only thing I would have done differently would be to get a tarp or other poly sheet and cover the bottom frame before the floor. This would stop air from going from underneath and being a direction for heat loss. Otherwise it is very good idea. And no money makes it better.

Here in the United States, you go to lumber yards and ask if they have any free heat treated pallets. They love it if you show up to ask because they have to pay out money to have them hauled away. So, by showing up and garbing pallets, you will be doing them a great service.
