2 Days Camping Alone in a Tent on a Clifftop - Fishing, Hiking & Filming

I spend 2 days camping alone in a tiny tent on the edge of a clifftop. I took with me my fishing gear and did some hiking and filming with my gopro, dslr and dji mavic pro drone. Solo Winter Camping on the Coast can be difficult. The terrain is rugged, and I was open to the elements. The wind was cold and strong, with gusts of 30mph at times, which made setting up the tent tough. I took my fishing gear with me in the hope that I could catch and cook a fish. I used a range of fishing lures and spinning tackle. All of my camping gear fitted in my large 80L Inca Extreme backpack from Mountain Warehouse. It gets dark quickly at night, but I had my winter camping gear with me, including a 4 season winter sleeping bag. More details of my camping gear that I took on this trip can be found below: CAMPING GEAR: Sil Hexpeak Tent: UCO Candle Lantern: 80L Inca Extreme Backpack: Powerbank Charger (new version): 10cm Billy Can: Small Camping Pillow: My Winter Sleeping Bag: Coleman Gas Canister: Folding Gas Stove: FILMING GEAR: Main Camera: Mavic Pro Drone: Wide Angle Lens: GoPro: Chest Mount: (These are amazon affiliate links)

Great video, thanks for sharing your trip. Such an amazing location there, I often go climbing and walking along those cliffs, occasionally with a bivi out for the night. I am not brave enough to use a tent down there due to the often frequent winds, fair play to you for doing so. Those cliffs can often be the hottest place in the UK on a summers day, with the sun reflecting off them and the sea. Sadly as you found out, one of the challenging things about the jurassic coast is the ever changing condition of the paths/rocks. The access and conditions can vary week to week. This is a great chance to use knowledge, experience, skills and instinct to decide how to be safe and when to turn back. That is why climbing the sea cliffs down there can be a very unique skillset, very different from roadside crags and scottish mountains. - At one point, the cliffs were famous with climbers for being very dangerous, with lots of loose rock and huge swells that suddenly smash into the base where your belayer may be stood, or gear be stored. I am very interested in that candle lantern, however I have a couple of questions, 1- Is it easy to extinguish the candle mid-use or do you have to let it burn out? 2- Does the glass get sooted up and require frequent cleaning? Once again, keep up the great videosAll the best, Rich.

To reiterate on a comment below and what I have said before- you've got it good over there. Time to dust-off my British passport and get over to England for a solo trip along a coastal region or even the Isle of Mann. Living in central British Columbia, means that unless it's dead of winter and -20 celsius, I wouldn't dream of eating, preparing or storing food near or in my shelter. Aside from the usual critters, and black bear, Grizzly bear etc. there is also Cougars, rutting Moose and other dangers. It would be nice to set-up camp with a view of the ocean, crack a bevvy and not worry about all of the things that my wife worries about when I'm gone. I'm fifty and I've tented all over BC and Alberta and have had one too many close encounters. Cheers mate, you've got it good.

Ill give ypu a tip the butane you used is hot, but propane is better. Also the fkames going to the sides of the cup are useless. just using up your fuel. more sometimes diesnt mean better. Or more. Hope that helps. been using oropane and butane every since i was 0 and my dad as well so im not just anyone. the more surface area at the bottom the faster itll heat. Heats going up if somethings in its way, itll go to the side the longer it takes for that heat to go up the better because of heat transference. also if you want to really conserve energy stir the water for about 2 minutes to make it heat up faster.

Hey Mike. I've been watching your videos since your collaboration with Alec Steele. Really enjoy your longer camping videos and probably watched all of them now. Love what you're doing and you're doing it great. Your editing in this video is amazing, love it. I usually don't comment on videos but i couldn't resist telling you how much I loved this. The video was over so quick, can't believe 40 minutes went by so fast. Please do more of these type edits and trips, they make me get out there myself and enjoy life as its supposed to. All the best

Hi Mike, love the videos both on TAO and TAF, but I'm going to pick you up on one tiny thing. I know you are a former teacher and will be aware of your younger audience so I'm going to request that you simply edit out any expletives that accidently occur rather than just bleeping over them. I know you have the skill, and it isn't as if there are likely to be many of them anyway. Anyway, a minor criticism, as I hope you can continue with the excellent standards you have achieved so far. Kind regards. Alan.

Hi Mike, your drone video is incredible. I'm glad you are making the time and effort to include your drone. It really adds a lot of context and visual appeal to your adventure. My wife and I look forward to watching your video on Friday nights. As a side note, this week we finally found the bacon that you and your dad enjoy at the pallet wood cabin. It's called ham bacon here in Dallas, TX. We enjoyed it for lunch today and it was a real treat. Thank you for all you do. Cheers, Robert.

This video is the shit Your shots the drone coastcraft: ) I grew up on Long Island and I have always loved the shore. Now you get arrested between dusk and dawn: ( Brought back a lot of memories. I don't know if it's across the pond yet but if you see Bluepoint Beer give it a try. It's made 2 towns away from me and is going cross country. I like the Toasted Lager. Cheers Mike and thank you. More coast please P that candle is way cool. I've never seen that before.

I am still quite fond about my recent purchase the Polish lavuu tent. a bit on the heavy side, but it traps the heat very well and is quite fire retardant and waterproof. but your tent looks great and looks pretty light weight. Ive to check out this Sil Hexpeak Tent ( thanks for the link )

Great editing Mike. The video looks great. That tent looks awesome, going to check it out. You can light the UCO lantern by sliding down the glass once the top has been extended. Then just turning it to one side to allow the flame to reach the wick. Just my opinion works either way. Cheers.

Fantastic footage Mike I really hope this is early skills for more exceptional videos with this style of editing. This has a brilliant unique touch to the current style of bushcraft videos out there. For those that are interested the song title in this video Stay Near - Henrik Olsson
