We finish building the exterior of the off grid cabin. This time building the folding windows and door. As well as that we put up some fascia board on the rafters as well as build a step using the live-edge ash board that was milled up earlier in the year. We also get a fire going and grill a rump steak and potatoes with some wild foraged garlic from just 10 metres away from the cabin!

You are very lucky that the pallets in your country use those nails. All the ones I have attempted to pull apart in the US have been made with the twist flooring nails and have to be cut apart with a reciprocating saw, because prying them apart invariably destroys the wood. It s worth it, though because most are made from white oak.

Really love how the live edges came out, gives some sort of real feel to it. Nicely done.
Watching this come to fruition has been a joy.
On pallet sizes: Same here, many options, shapes, and different wood classes - those wide planked ones are used here for stuff like breakers/transformers/engines etc

Their remodeling a local subway here in Ohio. I ask them for the pallets which i reuse to make wood projects. They had an one 8 foot long from their Roof A/C unit I got that was made from 1X8's. I got 6 of those out of that one pallet and with the cost of lumber i felt wonderful to have them.

Nice job! I love to use pallet wood too, even if it is a little more work upfront to get the nails out. I have a problem finding enough pallets though, especially all the same size. In my area they vary a lot in size and quality.

Which wind are you apologizing for? Must be self made because it can't be nature you are apologizing for. Use a rope for the windows, so you can pull the rope from the inside to lift and then tie off the window. just a thought.

Your dad is so much like my grandad was I love to watch the videos, I bought my woodland a few years ago & know he would of been doing the exact same thing when I built my cabin! What a treasure he is for you mate

The only issue I see in the Live edge cladding is the Bark. A debarked edge would look just as good without the fungus & acids that decay the wood faster. Live edge = lovely. Bark = rot.

I prefer Shiner Bock, but I ve never been able to find it in the UK. I think they only ship to a few states outside of Texas as of now. It d be nice to drink home grown beer in the UK.

Wonderful. I kept grinning at the garlic and saying grab some. I have to go research preserving wild garlic. I love these videos. Pallet wood is frosting of course. Just great.
