British Airways B777-300ER Business Class from Tokyo to London (SPECTACULAR Tokyo views) Lachlan Hall: On the issues with the routes it could be anything from international deals between Russia and England that allow that path to be taken as this allows BA to save money. During the cold war, the paths were considerably farther south bound (to avoid a second Korean Airlines 007, the deal probably allows BA to save money as some nations tax certain airways for use of airspace as well. Another reason is the way that runway at London Heathrow airport runs on a certain azimuth. It is easier for a plane to land at a runway that is from 0 to 30 degrees along the flight line rather than perpendicular to it. Looking at the London Heathrow airport website, the site states that the runway is on the 09/07 azimuth which means it lines up on a Northeast/Southwest heading in which case the air path makes a lot of sense. However it probably boils down to ease for the pilot and comfort for the passengers. I heard that on the ground near Siberia is really windy but not so much in the air. Captain flies off

I find it very sad when I read the comments posted, all people seem to do is complain. Both sets of my grandparents never even had a holiday let alone flew in a plane. I always fly business and have always been treated with total respect. I have nerve damage in my legs and feet due to chemo which I mention when checking in. I get a lot of cramp and need to move quickly. my last flight home from Johannesburg last month I was given an outside seat near the galley. It was absolutely fine and it is a great help to me to be able to put my legs up and lay flat so I can rest. The lounge in Johannesburg was very nice, the food was good and I even had a shower which was great as we had been on the road since 6am. I consider my self very lucky to be born when I was was and am able to travel to so many wonderful places in the world. So look at the positive not the negative and remember you don't know what will happen tomorrow, life is very short.

I too enjoyed your report, although I don't like the layout of business class, (Ying and Yang effect. The person in the aisle seat is disadvantaged by the (raised) privacy screen if he/she wants to enjoy the outside view, while the person in the window seat is disadvantaged by having to clamber over someone's legs if wanting to gain entry to the aisle. I realise that all one has to do is ask. Which seat do you prefer in business (Club Class)? Thanks for sharing, your trip reports are always very relaxing to view, as well as being informative.

I don't get why people bash BA's business class so much. I've flown BA and Emirates back to back, and other than some short comings in the entertainment systems on BA's side, mainly with screen size, I actually liked BA better. I pulled the screen up for privacy during the flight, there was less people to climb over to get out, and the crew seemed happier and far more attentive. Granted, the BA flight was 7 hours versus 14, but the Emirates crew I had was semi-rude on two of my four flight marathon. So whatever it is, it seems to be culture.

I flew BA to Bangkok earlier this year in Business Class. It was unbelievably awful. I could not believe that during the night, if you had middle seat, you had to climb over another flat bed and risk waking a sleeping passenger to access the aisle. Its acceptable in economy or premium economy, but not in Business Class. The televisions are really small, not what you would expect in C class and, the food was the usual chicken beef or veggie. It might be the worlds favourite airline, but not mine.

You poor Brits make me weep. Even BA might have a website for comments, so instead of whinging, complain to their management direct and then fly with another airline that provides service for what you paid. If all those below with negative comments about BA actually act according to their gripes, do not fly BA again. or shut up the British way?

MY WORST EXPIRIENCE EVER BRITISH AIRWAY HAS THE MOST UNCORFORTABLES AND UGLY BUISSNESS CLASS SEAT OF ALL AIRLINES. I will never more book a buissness class travel with them. You dont sleep well, is old style and you have to look at a passenger you dont even know. YOU WILL NOT HAVE PRIVACY PLEASE LISTEN. DONT BOOK FLIGHTS IN BUISSNES WITH BA

I'm not a flight expert, but I had a teacher once who said that pilots will avoid getting too close to the poles of the earth due to the the fact that the poles have decreased electromagnetic fields that would otherwise protect them from harmful radiation. This is why airlines will take more southerly routes: -)
