DODGE CITY, Kansas: Exploring The Old West's Wickedest Town

who lived thereabouts in Dodge and so forth, the
making of the show was just like so many of the other
early TV productions. Gunsmoke was filmed on a set in Hollywood
for scenes of the town of Dodge and all the outdoor scenes were
made in the hills behind L. A. /Beverly Hills. If you notice in the shows
the terrain is nothing like the mostly flat land of Kansas and the surrounding
area. Despite all that, it is a great epic of an entertainment package and more young
people of today should watch it because the show does teach virtues and all those
great actors and actresses in the series would be good role models even for todays spoiled
brats! LOL!

I toured Dodge Fall, 2020. What a disappointment! I had recently visited Tombstone and expected to see a town similar to that. I spent some time talking to a local at the Harley dealership and she said that the original town was on the other side of the tracks (literally) and had burned down. The Boot Hill is a fake cemetery. no actual dead people are there. The real Boot Hill was washed away and all of the coffins got to take a ride. I had planned to spend the day and stay over. Wound up blowing town after just a couple of hours.

Actually glad I watched this one. Great tour as usual. But I must say I was disappointed in the looks of the town. Oh it's a nice small city to be sure. But I guess I was expecting or hoping it was frozen in time from the ole Western days. Of course it couldn't be so. And at the risk of getting criticized, that reproduction of an old Western town and the play for tourists was pretty lame. I'm glad I saw it all here as it would have been out of my way on a trip of my own.

Dennis Hopper in Easy Rider is a putz. This stoner freakout hippy man you know man, what I mean man man! Weed does not do actually do this to the mind and what Dennis Hopper's problem was in this disgusting performance remains a mystery. Jack Nicholson's performance is authentically stony though chosenites killed his authentic stony character rather quick in the easy rider story.

last time i was in dosge city earp shpt me then i was hanged then i escaped and bat masterson shot me, then i got b etter and headed to the long branch saloon and got in a gun fight, they buried me on boot hill i got up and the rest is true history. i wwouldnt make any of this in fact that gal looks like ole mary at the ahem house lol

Hello from England! I have been watching your videos with great interest. Over here we only tend to see the cities or celebrity BS I've always wanted to see the real america where regular people live. I'll probably never make it now, but I wanted to visit the US and just tour around staying in motels, see the parts we don't often see.

I live in Northeast Kansas. Topeka to be exact. I've been to Dodge City like once. And that was to go further southwest to go see my dad when he was living near there at the time. Need to see more of that part of the state. Like, I finally checked out downtown Holton because of your video because I thought the main street was US 75.

Just think how much Matt Dillon a fictional charector played by James arness set in dodge city, was important to the real dodge city, even though the charector didn't exist, that they would put up a statue of James arness In dodge along with real western historical figures like Wyatt Earp and doc Holliday. That's respect.

I am from Kansas City. Did not have the opportunity to see it in full view. This is a great video. I think Dennis Hopper put that statue in his town in memory of the movie Giant, that he became popular in. What a great era it was, to perform with all of those big movie stars back then.

If you know these lands you will find out, its for real the wild wild west still. Especially if your from a big city, youd be surprised how dangerous it can get for being small towns. Back in the day they would be called slinger towns.

I live about 85 miles from dodge city in southwest Kansas and dodge might have been cool back in the day but it really isn’t much today. A lot of people in the area refer to it as dodge shitty lol

The homes are built like that because of the high winds we get. Seriously high wind! Also it’s easier to hear and cool-the earth provides excellent insulation!

From what I understand the homes in Dodge city are set low in the ground because of the danger from tornados. Very unique design. :)
