ARKANSAS: Slowly Fading Towns In The Dying Delta Great video Joe! I love Arkansas! I spent a lot of time there back in the 1970s. My grandparents owned around 150-200 acres and my parents had 10 with a spring running right through the middle of the property. The water was so clear that you could see crystal clear to the bottom. You could see the rainbow trout swimming through as well as other fish. This was in Yellville Arkansas. My Uncle opened the first pizzeria back in the early 1970s. Cappies Pizza. It was very successful and he opened a second location a year later in Mountain Home Arkansas.
The natural beauty of the area is breathtaking. If anyone remembers, Dog Patch Arkansas was a big tourist spot back in the day. Its gone now. It was the hometown of Lil Abner and his wife Daisy Mae in the Al Capp comic strip that ran from 1934-1977 in newspapers around the country. Great memories and natural beauty.

It's too bad you didn't get to feature the Woodruff County Courthouse in Augusta; it's beautiful and in the middle of a residential neighborhood surrounded by older homes - one of which, the Ferguson House, had to be razed in the last few years due to becoming too decayed to save.
In Des Arc (pronounced Dez Ark) you likely drove right past the Frith-Plunkett House on the main road through town; it's all boarded up, but is historic due to being used as a Civil War hospital.
I've spent years studying and documenting the decay of the infrastructure and architecture of the Arkansas Delta, as a passion project. Next time y'all are out this way, I could show you some fascinating towns.

Hey Joe: Recently you traveled to a couple towns close to me. Brinkley was one and it is only 25 miles from Clarendon. You would like Clarendon which has gone down since I was a child but, it has a lot of history. It is the County seat with the court house (antique) and several historical homes that are on the register. Clarendon sits on White River and known history of fishing, hunting, shelling, etc. There has even been a couple movies made here and several books written. Just wanted to throw this information to you in case you are ever in this area again. I truly enjoy your videos.

We have a great town for you guys to to see!
Next time you are up in Washington State, there is an extremely interesting town.
Ritzville, population. 1700 people. But this is what’s really Interesting, a town of this size has a hospital, golf course, police station, swim park, restored beautiful movie theater! How about the only Carnegie library, completely restored and working!
If you are ever back in Washington, Ritzville is on I-90 west of Spokane in the middle of the state. You will be blown away!

Hey bud! Lifelong Arkansan here. We've been watching your videos for quite awhile now. You have been in the Arkansas Delta a couple times now and I am wondering why you haven't traveled the western half of Arkansas You are missing the Ouachita Mountains, the Boston Mountains and our great Buffalo National River. Some of the most beautiful parts of Arkansas are in the western half. I know you were in Northwest Arkansas once and we loved the vid but you are depriving yourself of some fantastic views.

The newest and most classic Joe comment the Dollar Trifecta. Your humor is insane, I love it. Now besides cats the Trifecta must be mentioned when it is noticed in a small town. Very good video as usual. I'm with you on the big Victorian and older homes even though I live in a 1200 sq. ft. cabin on Canyon Lake (it is easy to cool in Texas. I've always admired those homes and enjoy that your videos feature them when you encounter them. It seems good towns have cats also.

I gotta say it again: You and your wife will love, love, L. O. V. E. Wilson, Arkansas. They have a Bed and Breakfast now, also a Five Star restaurant with lovally grown cuisine. It has been transfomed into a resort town. It is the jewel of the Delta! English Tudor beautiful! Let me know if I am bugging you, please. I know I have commented this a few times. I just know that you will love it.

OZ// Thanks Joey (& Nicole) for what you do- I, m always looking for the next one! I counted 5 cats! good work! must say I like to see Dogs running free, as in OZ, we have LOTS of laws (over-governed if U ask me ) Yes, those beautiful old southern homes- Aghh, what a shame to see them sit empty and left to rot- a tragedy. Love your work Joey, its a shining gem. Cheers Cherie.

I can't believe a movie a theatre is missed, because we have giant tv screens in homes today and can watch most movies in the comfort of home. Even in cities there can't be many people interested in trekking out to watch a movie! Feral cats are in every part of America, surely you've noticed in your travels, poor cats. Arkansas, like any other state has its pros and cons.

No Ark dont have a Macys and like most states have poor communities. We dont have hurricanes and blizzards and multible car pile ups due to weather and its cheaper to buy property here so if you dont like it here go to florda and buy homeowners insurance if you can or Chicago, or California where you have forrest fires year round and mud slides and earth quakes

Come to Southwest Arkansas! You've covered all surrounding areas but here, much like the delta it is kind of a dying area but with lots of history as well, we have lots of cool historic downtowns to look at. While you're here don't forget to explore the Ouachita Mountains, its our little hidden gem here in Arkansas.

Interesting: while New England is famous for its foliage in the fall, it seems that the Deep South, too, is leafy grand. Also, owing to the spacing between plants for summer's scarce water, each distinct November tree is set apart and holds our attention with its own individual aesthetic claim.

Great videos and historical information. If you can checkout Crawfordsville Arkansas.
It was the gambling moon shine hub in the 1940 thru 80s. Old blues artists performed there BB King, Albert King, Johnnie Taylor etc. Elvis Presley is rumored to have owned property there.

Having lived in Arkansas for 70 years I have been to all three towns you visited and also the towns in the delta you featured. We have both the sublime and the ridiculous in this state. Thanks for showing a little bit of both. You do fantastic work. Sincerely, Jim Thornton

Lots of cats for sure. It is too bad that some of those grand old houses have fallen into such disrepair though. Those are like the small towns that I grew up in back in the 70's they have a great vibe to them. Thanks for sharing and you have a great day. Safe travels

Love this one. 4 cats, at least. The most I've seen in videos in awhile. I am glad you take the time to film them for us. The town stats are really valuable in understanding what we are seeing. Thanks again. I always look forward to your videos.

I had to tune in for this video, because I've traveled through this portion of Arkansas, and did hunting and fishing, extensively there. I lived on the other side of Arkansas, just having narrowly missed hanging in Fort Smith (hehe.

Good to see so many kitties out and about. Nice weather and nice little towns. The places with so much 'stuff' around them befuddle me. I would have had a good ole Southern hissy fit when the first piece was dropped off. Thanks Joe.

Joe and Nic Hello from Ireland. I love your videos. Watch all of them. Enjoyed seeing your visits to State capitals and local restaurants. I’ve noticed video becomes blurry at times. Is it my tv or have you a new camera

So many cozy beautiful empty houses. Very curious to know about the house owners or their family. They leave houses empty rotting, to live where Do what I have seen similar cases in some of your other videos in others states/towns

Very cool house where the doctor practiced. Great name for a grocery store! Agree. Very nice homes in the area. I love the desolate roads. Nice courthouse in Des Arc. Nice to see so many cats! Looking forward to TN!

Interesting to see Des Arc from another viewpoint. I remember my granny going to the fish man to get fresh fish. My family is from Hazen although the majority have moved away. I was little when we left

It would be nice if you listed the quality of the water provider and the city infrastructure in these towns with low crime rates and affordable houses. As a retiree I would consider moving to that kind of town.

Amazing how most of that poverty happened after '97 Clinton NAFTA agreement and the Walton siblings started buying things overseas. They destroyed small businesses thruout the whole country the same way.

Hi guys! Just have to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. Joe, your voice is perfect for taking us along the trip. BTW I'm a crazy lady who talks to you and answers you as you comment. Lol!

Here, in New Zealand, we have a chain of butcher's stores called The Mad Butcher. It was started by a guy who called himself the 'mad butcher', due to his personality and low prices.

You should have driven to Tupelo right down from McCrory. From stories I've heard it use to have a lot, but today less than 100 people.
