TENNESSEE: Quiet Towns In A Rarely Seen Corner Of The State Dear Joe and Nic, thank you for you video of Martin Tennessee, as a matter of fact, thank you for all your videos. I enjoy them so much. Back in the early 60’s fresh out of high school, I spent a week or so in Martin. It was a very pleasant experience.
My Aunt own a restaurant on the very street that you were on. Lindell Street. She was divorced and a hard working lady. She would get up before daybreak and head on down to the restaurant to start cooking for the day.
I would sleep in and when I woke up, I would walk to the restaurant.
They had just opened a new dollar store, two doors down and when the girls, that worked there had their break, they would come to the restaurant, one by one, to meet Ms. Lane’s nephew.
That was my Summer of 42! I will never forget the good people that I met and enjoyed as a young man of 18.
I Loved Martin, Tennessee!
Thanks again Joe!

Joe,
Your comments are so quiet and respectful.
I really enjoy the replies by people who lived in the towns or had family there.
Statistics don't paint a realistic picture of these people and there everyday lives.
These area more typical of America, they represent reality for better or worse, but
are what made us what we are today.
When I see those Confederate grave yards or monuments, I don't hate on them, they were
part of us and many, not all but many, wanted a better country.
Not all Germans who fought in WW2 were anti--Semitic and not all Confederate soldiers believed in slavery.
Cheers,
Rik Spector

I live in and grew up in mckenzie. It's hard to find housing, and there's nothing here unless you're a college student or retired. Dr's are in other towns as well as most shopping and towns roll up just after dark. We love our rebels, and they just had a game for state. The caboose is used as a consession stand in the summer for the splash pad behind it. The mckenzie bank you found is now our library. The park with the gazebo honors our veterans with all the plaques everywhere, and the theater is still in operation. the cardboard guy was the man who owned the theater. Thank-you for visiting us.

Yet another Paris! They have a very cool Eiffel Tower replica! McKenzie. Looks like a fire-damaged building in town 12: 53. Also damaged the building to the left with the fake facade, now a mural. . otherwise - that must be the place! . Martin: Looks quaint & normal. Union City typical also - gawd, X'mas music SOS - after 70-some years it gets old! - love it when it stops after New Years! Police must be bored there - maybe too many for that town. It seems Nicole seldom travels through the day with you anymore but she's there come dinnertime! No dinner that night Hope she's OK!

I had a former friend who lived in Martin TN we met online I had never been to Martin. We were friends for about 5 years. Then one day I realized I hadn't heard from him for awhile. Later I learned he stole a car and got into a high speed chase with the cops (Weakley county sheriff I believe) crashed and went to prison. I guess you never really know what some people are capable of. Thanks for the tour. I've never seen this part of TN.

I live in Paris, Ontario, named as such because of Plaster of Paris mining which was located near the town. The mining ceased production many decades ago. The town itself dates back to the mid 1800s. It was the location of the first long distance telephone call between Alexander Graham Bells lab in Brantford, Ontario and the telegraph centre in Paris, Ontario.

Just got back from Camden Tennessee visiting my wife’s kin. Always ready to go visit Tennessee. Played golf at Paris Landing in Paris, Tennessee. It can’t get any better then this area. My wife and I got married in 1977 in her grandmother’s front room by her uncle who was a preacher(God rest his soul) in Bruceton, Tenn.

Love the videos, as a person that has not been to the US its good to around. Can I ask, do you always arrive early or at a very quite time Just that there hardly ever seems to be anyone at the main town centers or in fact anywhere. In the UK most towns are always busy with people walking around shopping etc.

I’ve been watching your videos forever, and to my surprise, today I saw you visited my tiny hometown in the corner of TN. So cool to see your journey and all the places you go. Thanks for showing everything - regardless of size! Keep up the awesome and super interesting content.

Downtown is where the polic station is and you were right by the station. Its not a horrible town in union city. Please come back and visit again and i would love to show you around and give you a glimpse of the local life honestly.

Those poor souls you know there were mother's weeping wondering what happened to their children. . I bet the majority of them were not slave owning families. Corporations in the South were plantations. And they ran the government

My husband’s aunt lives in Paris, TN. Beautiful courthouse! I love murals that tell the story of the town. I enjoyed seeing these nice towns. Lots of nice homes, especially the White House in Martin, and great downtowns.
reply

Wow, it is beautiful there in Tennessee. Thanks for capturing this honest look at US States! So well preserved some of those downtowns. Love the theatres you focus on, such a big part of history! Great videos, thanks!

Umm its not o-b-on county. its o-bi-un. obion. its a odd name but its from the native Americans that used to hunt and live locally when it was first settled by the white men. sorry just wanted to let it be said
reply

The pronunciation for Obion was a good try. I live here here. I love that you did Paris I didn’t see that it was mission mention or did not hear it that Hank Williams Junior lives in Paris Tennessee.

Paris Tennessee at one time in the 30-50s was known as little Chicago due to crime and murders. Its heyday was 1920s. Also was home to Judge Julian Guinn one hell of a tough Judge.
reply

Sir, I love Paris Tennessee, it's really nice. Anyway, let me show you a video about the small Spanish town I am living my last years. You Tube: Chilluevar, un pueblo para recordar.
reply

Thanks, I wonder if the guy that invented the garbage cans got 10 cent for each one would be worth a lot of money as we have the same for green bin and garbage in Canada LOL
reply

(from The Netherlands) Interesting. .. but as depressing as all the other towns you visited. But thanks very much for these videos. .. your commentaries are highly apppreciated!
reply

Very solid video this time around. Some of those income numbers may be affected by the colleges in some of the locations there, but they all look like great little college towns.
reply

Great video Joe, as always. One thing I noticed with a lot of houses is that they don't have garages for vehicles. It appears that they are left outside. Regards from Australia.
reply

Prior to watching your video, I would have said that Paris, Tennessee was most famous for having been mentioned in the George Jones and Tammy Wynette hit We're Not the Jet Set.
reply

Hey Joe, Thanks for this video. We used to live in Mclemoresville which wasn't to far from where you were. Merry Christmas To You and Nicole and all your family sir.
reply

Thanks Joe for taking us with you on the tour of small town America. Christmas in a small town is the best. Like seeing the 1963 Plymouth Valiant not rod too.

Look at the sky!
Chemtrails everywhere!
Clouds don’t criss cross each other
Wonder why the draught in the grain belt is happened

reply

This was really nice, I can see cultured people all over those towns, people who care about things and are deep rooted. Beautiful. Thankyou.
reply

Love seeing all the beautiful small towns. Especially love the old theaters and murals painted on the buildings. Thanks as always Joe and Nic
reply

All these towns look healthier compared to a lot of Texas small towns I’m not saying all of rural Texas is run down but a lot is.
reply

This beats me. America is about liberty and freedom, so why would you have a symbol of a failed state like France in your backyard

You use the word 'Nice' often, and if you really knew what it meant you wouldn't want to use it at all! Check out the real meaning!
