I live in Ottawa. MTV marketing is less disingenuous. Perfect city, if you enjoy extremist politics dictating every day life. Example: A guy I know used to own a comic book shop. He sells an issue of Wonder Woman to someone, who gets 'triggered' on the 2nd page, returns to the store and demands a full refund, in cash. Not only does the shop owner comply, enthusiastically, but makes a series of changes, wondering if he should add 'trigger labels' to EVERY SINGLE ISSUE (there are 1000's, to avoid future trigger instances. To be clear. The number of things a person can be 'triggered' by is literally infinite, which he soon came to realize, but went along with the idea anyways. Imagine trying to return an album, because you didn't like the 14th word in the 3rd song. And living in a city where you can actually expect this to work out in your favour. I could literally write an Archipelago book on Ottawa culture, and may yet. Welcome to Ottawa.

Visit Ottawa during the summer, actually, starting in May. We have all kinds of festivals, beginning in May, with the tulip festival, the Dragon boat Festival, ribfest, blues fest, the jazz festival, chamber fest (for lovers of classical chamber music, and music and beyond (for all music lovers. The only problem is that these festivals can be a bit expensive. Plan ahead. The more tickets you buy, the cheaper it gets. Buying a festival pass is also a way to go. During the late spring and summer, the son rises about 5: 15 in the morning and sets around 9 PM. Nice long days. Elgin Street is now the place for nightlife. There is also Irene's Pub on Bank St, South. They always have live music, and the food is surprisingly good.

Wooo Im from Ottawa and one thing Id really recommend if youre visiting is to go to one of our museums If you have little kids then the Childrens museum/museum of history is the place to go If not, then I think the art museum or the science and technology museum are really fun If thats not really your thing though, Jean Cartier park and city hall almost always have something going on, from culture festivals to death metal concerts to yoga classes, theres really something for everyone.

Moved back to ottawa from Vancouver. . city has grown and changed a lot. becoming a world class city has its growing pains. bottom falling out of the downtown arena deal. the light rail system delay. etc etc etc. . gun crime is up. as long as the don't sell the city off by the square foot to off shore Asian investor. . like they did to Vancouver. . Making impossible for normal people to afford. . we should be alright

I think like DC in the US and Canberra in Australia, as the Federal Capital, it lends itself to a very nice white collar existence for both the workers in the government (who tend to be well paid) and all of the various consultants, lobbyists and contractors who hire people and spend money (in places like restaurants) that raise the overall level of prosperity in the city.

Its really not that great to live here. All the good concerts skip us for Montreal and Toronto, our sport teams are the laughing stock of their leagues, nothing but bums and gangs in the market, our transit system is a joke, we have to live near all the idiot politicians, and if you dont speak French you cant get a job because of all the entitled whiny Quebecers.

I was raised and lived in Ottawa but I moved away to the big city of Washington DC. I found Ottawa boring, but there's something special about the place that makes me want to live there again. Maybe it's the slower pace of life, or skating on the Rideau Canal, or going to the IKEA at Iris Street (not a lot of IKEAs here in the US) for those meatballs.

Love hearing about my hood, as long as I can afford to continue living here. Gatineau Park is my gym as is the Ottawa Canal system next to my appartment. La Nordique is okay but the video cannot capture the smell of chlorine, the fake nature music piped in to hide the sound of the birds, or the saggy bodies of that person in the Speedos next to you.

I went to high school in Ottawa, lived their briefly in my twenties, and remember it with love. But, like any city, it is super- incredible- fantastic if you have money. This is not the Ottawa I know. Are these rich kids? (I kinda like the drinking, fighting, and loose woman Ottawa that moved away from the gentrified and greedy Byward market)
