I remember how excited I was after my first hike when I went back the next year to meet prospective thru-hikers and the yearning that came across me that I wish I could be there hiking it again and envying the thru-hikers that I was now meeting. its what made me do a second thru-hike. and now, in 2017, a 3rd.
My first was 1983 right outta high school. March 27-Sept 7. yup. gonna be 52. wow. time flies, baby!
My second was 1992. March 27- Aug 27
Upcoming 3rd. hmmm, Probably April 7 but hoping for March 27.

Adrenaline is generic, but if you engage in extraordinary things like hiking, and bicycling it becomes special. The thought of going back to where you experienced it can give you a high. (What I Call - Adrenaline Junkie. What you were experiencing in your auto on the way to trail magic is contagious to all of us (Adrenaline Junkies) watching your journey back. I always enjoy seeing that wonderful feeling. :) frank

This is so moving, Dixie! Anyone who watches your off the cuff, solemn, soliloquy at the end of this video will have to dry their eyes, such emotion. Most of the other comments here prove it. Trail magic and trail angels are way way wonderful too! But that speech. I shared it with my daughter. I am looking forward to calling my tent home. Thank you so so much Dixie for just being you.

Dixie great video! I can really tell you miss the trail it looked like you were tearing up in the truck a little bit, but that's okay, you have a great heart and I know the AT hikers enjoyed the trail magic. We know the feeling hiking a trail and missing it, like you said, if only people knew how it felt to feel back at home on the trail and that is so true, you miss it a lot.

I love your new intro! You rock! I hope to meet you at Trail Days this year! You were a huge inspiration to me and next week I am going for my 1st AT section hike - starting at trail days. I had to get off trail after only 5 days. :-( and didn't get to experience trail magic, at least not this kind. My magic came in the form of help with various issues. But I want to go back and pick up where I left off. Though my dreams of through hiking are pretty much toast. If I can get back I really need someone to tag along with me.

Dixie, I followed you from Springer all the way to the end and I'm sure giving back trail magic to the new hikers this year was a very fulfilling feeling, not to mention sharing the lessons you learned on the trail. Looking forward to your next update, Mike.
