The Most Common Mistakes Thru-Hikers Make danny: You are awesome, this is much needed good stuff. I lived in the woods for a couple years, 40 years ago, I've lost touch more than I realized. don't know if I'm a hiker really but if I go out again thats where I'll be, I would be one that would be glad to see you guys and support you. I might be fantasizing a bit, but it does seem like a great way to live no more payroll or generally just selfish people and politics no one understands. hopefully I'll make it there. for now I've got a couple old peeps and a sister that might need me a bit. otherwise, I'm out with you guys and I'll never look back. I have skills I didn't have forty years ago of course, hoping it may be a little less stressfull. and if I can make it back

I mainly get afraid of medical issues on long hikes.
I have no idea what to do about medications, I have stuff I gotta take daily or bad stuff happens.
Not to mention if I eat one wrong thing I'll get so sick.
Thankfully the rest I'm good with, my track coaches taught us about pacing and properly taking care of ourselves, all the stretches to do, the proper shoes to wear, (etc)
Oh! And personal tip from me for reading through this whole rant, never shove large amounts of peanut butter in your mouth all at once.
It's not fun.

10: 26 WOW. This is something I should have realized but didn't think about. We see this at the macro layer, it's what causes rocks and boulder to break off. But for you filter, at the micro layer, it totally makes sense. Thanks! I will make sure I follow this for sure. For me this is why watching the video's of experienced hikers is so valuable. Thank you again!

Another aspect related to the comment below about looking behind you, after more than once having to backtrack, I trained myself into the habit of always looking back on a place that I was leaving to make sure I wasn't leaving anything behind. It's a habit that's carried over into everyday life and one I've been very grateful for on a number of occasions.

I watch a lot of Dixie and there are some great tips, does anyone here have any information for non-through hikes? My husband and I went into the Bridger Teton forest. This is just a long hike not a through hike. We were going 25 miles back and the food was heavy. We are doing it again next year and I want to be better prepared.

Dixie has someone who had plantar fasciitis before and I seem to have trouble finding the right shoes. where is and what is the name of that place a lot of hikers talk about that they go t. o to help them find the best shoes for them?

Hiking alone? As a boy scout and with my Dad and Uncles going solo was always forbidden. What are the concerns in the era of cell phones and more traffic on these trails?
