The 2025 Ford Explorer Is Sharper And More Techy, But Is That Enough

For 2025 the Explorer gets a through refresh with updated bumpers, grilles, headlights, tail lights, and a big tech upgrade inside. But, it's still the same size as before while Toyota and GM have recently launched notably roomier SUV competitors. Also, Ford has ditched the Explorer's short lived hybrid system leaving just the 2. 3L turbo and 3. 0L turbo options under the hood.

Great video as always Alex. I've been driving the Explorer since 1998. I lease them so I get a new one every 3 years. I agree, they need to create a hybrid that competes with Toyota, Hyundai, etc. My lease is up this month and my Platinum should be here soon. It was delayed due to Ford performing extensive testing to avoid or diminish recalls.

All I see is Police cruiser when I see the Explorer. I don’t know if that is what make them look cheap and generic, but the exterior is another NPC suv. The interior looks nice on this top of the line Platinum model, but I’d be curious of the material choices in lower trims.

I haven't owned an explorer since fuel return exploded, rear diff exploded, tires separated, the tie rod came off on the highway, the hood flew open on highway, and Ford said don't use cruise control may start a fire. It was brand new at time sold 2 years later.

My question is when you get into a Blazer EV do the ICE cars drive and feel oddly old This happens to me when I swap from my Tesla to my Honda. The quick acceleration and smooth no transmission movement just makes the thing feel great.

I like Fords but consider me whelmed - the Explorer has always been RWD/4WD so that's not particularly noteworthy. The loss of the hybrid system means it's not even getting cursory consideration as I look for a new car.

Just ruined the already nice design. why ford why
But glad that this is a proper rear wheel based drive crossover and it was only pointed out and addressed by Alex back in 2019 when this generation launched

RWD was the wrong move for a vehicle in this segment. Most parents absolutely do not care which wheels are being driven. Space and gas mileage are at the top of most families' priority list in this class of vehicle.

Ford was so close with European PHEV. Bit too early on tech. Also they put sports suspension only for that. If they made one with heat pump and 25kwh battery, I would be interested to upgrade my Rav4 phev for that.

I don't like that big screen sticking up, nor the dashboard, I have a ford escape and has a big screen that does not stick up, I would not buy this at all and my escape has surround sound it's a 4 x4, sel

All that money and no hood struts Pffft. The new grille is getting a bit BMW-ish because it's now larger than it should be.
Horrible decision to put the HVAC controls as small as they are and on the screen.

Ford: we're not making cars anymore so we can focus on what we do best--trucks and SUV's
Also Ford: puts out a cheap looking meh Ford explorer inside and out every generation

I'd definitely want a new hybrid option on the Explorer, one that focuses on fuel economy rather than performance. It should be competitive with the Highlander hybrid.

Is there a camera facing the driver Any car that has a camera built in to watch me and send reports back to home base is automatically excluded from my purchase.

Mother Nature keeps on letting us know she ain’t too happy about what we’re spewing into the Earth - and yet we don’t give a damn and continue to buy these.

Did you mention towing capacity Didn’t hear such. Overall, good first review. I’m not of fan of controls on the screen. Seems to be a safety issue for me.

Take a look at the Chinese/Asian market Explorer that has been out since last year and you'll wonder where the upgrade is for the American market.

This gives the MDX type S a run for its money
Like the MDX it has a double wishbone front, and RWD dynamics and a RWD based AWD system

Oh, that grill. What is that shape Some kind of a pot Why can't Ford design a good looking grill The new interior/dash looks much better though.

I ordered an Active trim back when the order book opened. My build date was last month. Just waiting on Ford to release and deliver: -)

LOL. So typical of Ford for being unable to meet their own hybrid demands. Even the Escape hybrids were pretty difficult to find.
