If you're looking for the Wrangler with the most torque to support future mods, the longest range for going farther down the trail, or if you simply want the most efficient hard-core off-road vehicle in America, you'll find all of that in the 2020 Wrangler EcoDiesel. Using a tweaked version of the 3. 0L diesel V6 from the RAM 1500, the average consumer should be getting around 30 MPG on their daily commute and an on-road range of over 500 miles between fill-ups. The downside? The diesel is a spendy option. ELPJM09: I dont trust anything eco, turbo, diesel or hybrids from Fiat Chrysler. Dont even consider them fully American brand since they are owned by the corrupt Italians. Not to mention that wranglers are extremely overrated with a design decades old and is starting to get old.

Wrangler miles ahead of a 4 Runner in terms of overall refinement and drive-ability on-road? Seriously? Wrangler still has by far the roughest ride on and off road, the worst road noise inside the cabin, the jumpiest attitude on highway and over the bumps just to name a few. Andrew Collins from Jalopnik and pretty much everyone who drove a 4 Runner and a Wrangler disagrees with you. Here is what he had to say: As for alternatives, the only other stock SUV that really offers this much earnest off-road ability and attitude out of the box is the Jeep Wrangler. Those also hold their value well, but I feel like the 4Runners independent front suspension might make it a bit better ride on-road and at higher speeds. I also happen to find the Toyota a little more refined inside, even compared to the revised-for-2018 Wrangler.

I have an irrational desire to have a medium size SUV/truck that gets 30mpg and has a 500-600 mile range before refueling. Sadly, I fear the modern constraints on these diesels make them unreliable when compared to gassers.

Windshield and doors are not actually removable -- it's just the Fiat-Chrysler-Jeep build quality. Anyway, good luck offroading with your Italian-built diesel engine.

It's not about the money. It's about range. I want to be able to drive anywhere as far as I want without running out of gas. And diesel engines are way cooler.
