FCA took the wraps off their newest infotainment software today which will be launching in 2020 Zach: As an owner of a 2018 Grand Cherokee, I can say this can't come soon enough. It's such a buggy system. You have to wait until your vehicle has cleared the welcome screen before you plug in your phone or it locks it up. And when it locks it up, IT LOCKS UP. You have to turn the car off for 10-15 minutes so the entire system can reboot. Used to be you could hold down the power button and tune button simultaneously to reboot it. Now, for 2018 and later, you have to perform a dance where the green talk button is held for 30, the red end button is held for 30, the door is opened for 30, the door is closed, the power is turned on, and you pray to the heavens that you haven't messed up a step. It's locked in full volume a couple of times, and the volume knob is unresponsive. That's always fun.

Excellent video, Alex. It really angers me when Raspberry Pi can create a USD5. 00 ARM-based pc (Pi Zero) that outperforms every in-car infotainment, but auto makers won't spend an extra 0. 40 per vehicle for a faster processor. I'm sorry to hear that FCA is abandoning QNX in favor of Android. I understand the shift, from a software development standpoint (the latter having more and better tools than the former, but QNX was a big part of the reason that UConnect was always (i) faster and (ii) more stable than the competitors. QNX has a multi-decade history of building super fast and super stable OSes for embedded systems. Microsoft and Android-based embedded systems are both newer and less stable, as a rule.

Alex not sure if you read these comments but was wondering if you know if Ferrari has anything to do with Alfa now that they are separate entities? Meaning Alfa and Maserati products going forward will have no common parts with Ferrari? Just hot me thinking a I know Ferrari doesn't use Uconnect bit didn't know if that had more to do with public image or the two now being to separate companies
