Isnt the whole selling point of a truck is to be rough, tough, and simple? I mean dont get me wrong I like the luxury stuff but if you are using the truck for what its intended for (hauling/towing shit) then why are these upgrades necessary? Most of the people who buy and use trucks want reliability and power over luxury and gloss. You could then appeal to people that dont want that crap. Like for instance: the Ford has dual air-conditioning which sounds neat in theory but if I have my side on 85 degrees and my passenger has it on 60 degrees, its just really counter productive and used more as a neat gimmick to sell these. Go back to what made these trucks awesome: Simplicity and reliability.

The Ram tailgate is cool, but I see it as a weak point for weight like an ATV or motorcycle. The GMC is cool for a tailgate party or a big trunk, not for a work truck tailgate. The Ford just seems cheesy with the step and the assist handle. The Chevy is cool, but not for a power tailgate, I wouldnt try that automatic after dumping in like a ton of dirt. And the Ridgeline, not a truck, is just a big mall crawler. I know trucks have gone the way of luxury, but I still prefer a tried and true real tailgate that you can slam open and close and not worry about dirt. like my 69 GMC, tailgate is still there and working. The only power to open and close it is me.

I am 56 and own and manage many properties. I have the majority of my tools in my 8 F250 crewcab. When I am working on a job I am opening and closing my tailgate as well as climbing in and out of the bed a dozen times a day or more. I use a small step stool to make it easier. Any of these is an improvement over mine. I like the new GMC style especially. if only they could steal the Ridgelines hidden trunk. assuming it would be robust enough to still haul stone and then mount it on a Super Duty

I literally watched the owner of a large local dealership drop that fancy GMC tailgate onto the hitch on a brand new AT4 while he was demonstrating what a great new feature it is. The look on his face when I told him he just dented the tailgate on that brand new 65k truck was priceless. Then it was even better when he asked how I knew that would happen and I replied simply with, YouTube

The ram and gmc tailgate is useless. Just a pain in the ass all together. It looks like someone chopped your tailgate in half and put it back there and said eh good enough. You cant tell me any of these are practical because theyre dumb and cost more. They dont serve a real purpose because you can do the same thing with a solid piece tailgate that you can with these hackjob ones.

Wow. If you dont need or want a fancy tailgate. Dont get one. The Ram would be nice I wouldnt have to lean over the tailgate when loading/ unloading gear. Not sure the GMC would help me in any way. I do agree trucks are too fancy and expensive these days. These tailgates though can obviously serve a utilitarian purpose. I would personally benefit from the Ram tailgate.

People are right in the comments if you are afraid of getting a scratch or a dent in your truck or even getting it muddy then buy a Cadillac not a truck personally I use my 150 for towing or hauling and yes it has a couple of dinks and scratches and Im not afraid to get it muddy

I own a 2016 F150 XLT FX4 with the tailgate step and use it often. Its well built and simple to use without any costly gimmickry. RAM has a good design. Too bad their truck is still a POS The GMC tailgate is a joke and their garish interior design makes me nauseous. No thanks.
