Ford and Volvo took very different paths when crafting their performance crossovers. Ford opted for a 3. 0L V6 with twin turbo chargers, Volvo chose an electrified path with a 2. 0L engine that's turbocharged, supercharged and paired with two electric motors. Which one is right for you? Let's find out

Wow. what an odd-duck comparison between those vehicles. I was going to use the cliche of comparing apples to oranges, but in this case, more like comparing apples to prunes. The Explorer is the apple. I would think the more practical comparison should have been the Explorer vs. the Durango. I'd also prefer the Explorer Platinum over the ST.

Volvo: Turbo Charged, Super Charged, with a Plug-In Hybrid System = Good fking luck when all that stuff begins taking a dump. In no way can I see 100, 000 care free miles with no major issues in this rig. It will be a technological miracle if this vehicle doesn't cost 20, 000 in parts and shop time over a three or four year period.

80, 000 Volvo and no power tilt/ telescoping wheel and no power release third row? Wth? Without reading owners reviews this tri power drive train logically is a bad idea for longevity. And has to be a nightmare to work on. The white interior is not going to be white long. I do like the Volvo looks but thats as far as i can go.

I think Volvo does not deserve or justify a premium prices. When their top of the line models have same in/exterior as the lowest models. It's best to buy the cheapest Volvo, because they all look and feel the same. Luxury is in the detail and Volvo has so much 'mass manufacturedish' components in their line-ups

The engine in the Volvo is cheaply built garbage. Also take a look at 2016 XC90 owners ratings on Edmunds, the worst I have ever seen, car starts to fall apart after less than 4 years already, not durable at all, unreliable money pit.

Volvo is NOT luxury. Neither are BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Lexus, Jaguar, Cadillac, Acura, Infiniti, Porsche, or Mini. Those are PREMIUM brands. It's so incredibly embarrassing when American motoring 'journalists' repeatedly get that wrong.

Hey Alex, I appreciate you making such detailed informative videos for us but I think you should take care of yourself too. You shoot these videos in rain, with absolutely no jacket or headgear. -Fellow San Jose resident and True Fan.

High anxiety owning either one of these for more than 40, 000 miles. I like them both for different reasons, but the value minded side of me would never let me even consider them. Good luck to whom ever buys these second hand.

Please continue to try and get the Aviator to compare with this XC90 and also even the XT6 for a 3 way comparison of possible. I'd also like to see the Explorer ST vs. The Aviator in it's hybrid or non-hybrid version.

I'd take the Explorer limited 4WD or Buick Enclave if I were looking at the Volvo. Maybe if the XC90 and Volvo's in general were 5-10k less expensive to start I'd pick the XC90(my opinion)
