As far as I am concerned it makes total sense to put all the tech into the car at the base model. As you correctlystated it makes sense that at some future point adding the features at a later date. This not onlybecomes possible, but if a person thinks of it, software becomes more advanced and takes advantage of old hardware components. Assuch developmentsin technology occur as time progresses forward. Even though the cost is slightly more expensive later, A personmay end up with the experience of driving a basically new technology for an older model. And that experiencecan be like driving a totally new car, for a few more years to come.

I too placed my order on Feb 28 but a week before the end of the quarter, I got the confusing Tesla delayed text and a courtesy call from the nearest Tesla store. In a conference call with my bank, I went from financing 22, 800 to 21, 905 for the next trim up, the Plus. Tuesday we drove the trade-in car to the Tesla store and returned in our new Model 3. So far, it has fully met our expectations. I appreciate you investigation of the base Model 3 but no interest in following your example. GOOD LUCKBob Wilson

Tomorrow Saturday April 13 Im picking up my Model 3 Standard Plus, I ordered it on April 4. Im paying the extra 2, 500 for the Plus, 3, 000 for Autopilot, 5, 000 for the Enhanced Autopilot (or whatever is called) and 1, 500 for blue paint job. I just signed the agreement online this morning (eastern time) before the news came out. So my car is about 1, 500 more if I had waited a few hours or a day or so. This definitely is going to be an interesting conversation with the Delivery Specialist.

Building in features and selling software access to those features later may be a good business decision for Tesla, but when it comes to range, do they just limit the charge on the battery until you pay them to unlock the rest of the charging room? Seems odd. Its kind of like a builder selling you a 3 bedroom house, building a wall in front of a 4th bedroom, then charging 30, 000 to take the wall down if down the road you decide you need another bedroom.

If Tesla wants to streamline production and minimize costs, it makes a lot of sense to produce one version of hardware and then differentiate the models using software. This also allows an owner of a base model to upgrade their car later by paying for a software update to include the enhanced features. That said, it still sounds like they are figuring this out as they go - iteratively rather than strategically.

Elon Musk stated on the record numerous times that a less expensive pack design was being created to make the 35K configuration do-able / profitable? Where is it and does it actually exist at this time? If Tesla is software limiting packs currently, is the 35/37K Model 3 profitable if it is essentially the same pack as the mid-range configuration?

It simply doesnt exist. Its absurd that first they claim that theyve got to shut down all stores in order to make it, then they say that they wont be selling it online at all, instead moving it to stores, and removing some of the cost-cutting measures. This company is more retarded than. basically any out there.

Ordered the same car, got a call from Tesla Service Center / Rep where my car will be delivered saying everything looks good and they will notify me when the car is ready. With car actually now being a Partial Premium Model I would think this will happen in the next week or so.

Honestly the whole thing smells of bait and switch. For the past 3 years Tesla has been promising the 35k Model 3 and even before its volume production they axed it. Yes the SR+ Autopilot is its replacement but it doesnt change the fact the 35k Model 3 no longer exists period.

I called this two years ago. I said Musk would make available a few thousand 35K Model 3s just to get the lawsuit off his back, but in reality they will all be much more expensive. Tesla plays games all the time with pricing (always upselling) so this is entirely predictable.
