This was a great comprehensive review of it. I want to tell Infiniti that coming from a QX70, Im extremely disappointed. My sales person assured me this was better, after 4 Infinitis, I feel sad. I got thos 2019 QX50 and I feel Infiniti went cheaper on EVERYTHING. Dont get me wrong, I like a lot of features, like the spacier middle caddy, its does feel fast, but thats after a huge delay where it felt like a cow, til it went to a cow with a rocket that fired up late. It feels puny, sounds like a Sentra, and No Android compatibility? Jesus were in 2020 almost wth? The cosmetic lines of the car are pleasing, I dont have the perforated seats, so the ones I have feel like old grandma plastic covering the fine dining room chairs. My butt and back sweat a lot. They ate comfortable tho, I just sweat. It was a 5000 for better seats. I like this car, but its no match to the qx70. I get it tho, infinity went cheaper to appeal to an larger crowd and make more mmoney. That makes me sad, and Im wanting to find a new Make now, after 12 years of being a die hard infiniti person. Sigh

Personally exterior wise, I think it looks really nice. Interior could use some tweaking. For example the infotainment is just behind the times, or so it seems. They could learn a lot from looking at Audi interiors and how they do the infotainment, especially with the digital dash where the speedo is and making that fully customizable to even just be a full map for the Nav and just showing the speed in a corner somewhere so as not to block the Nav. Other than that, I think the QX50 is pretty great, cool engine technology, waiting to see how reliable they will be though. But Im not too afraid as its not all that complex, mostly just the electronics controlling it are complex but the linkage to the crank itself and the motor controlling the movement from the cam, is not complex at all. I also like that the CVT doesnt just hang out at one rpm, I now the mimicking an 8 speed is not the most efficient, but I hate the way CVTs sound and feel when they are set up to drive in the same rpm while increasing the speed under acceleration. Its just cheap and annoying feeling.

I DISAGREE with you on infinity having a more luxury interior than Acura RDX. Im talking next 2019 RDX. only the diamond stitching in the seats is lux on infinity. Acura next rdx will destroy sales for this new infinity. 1st: The new wrap around cockpit, 2nd APPLE CARPLAY I mean wtf if you dont have that by now your sales will be screwed. Infinity has 2screens? Again OLD Everything inside this infinity says old old old. Except the white diamond stitch leather. If you ignore the dash. Start stop by my cup holder? Wtf? What if I hit it with my hand while Im driving? Who gives a shit about a new engine design and savings on gas if you love your car outside then hate it as soon as you get inside. Infinity is about to learn a hard lesson next few quarters being the last hold out on Apple CarPlay, 2screen BS ect ect ect ect.

The build your own portion of Infinitiusa. com now has the QX50, and its really not a value compared to the XC60, GLC, X3, or Q5 when fully-loaded. Its slightly more fuel efficient, but slower than all 4 of those. Also, whats up with the incorrect information on their comparison section? It makes it seem like the QX50 is the only vehicle in its class where you can use your foot to open the tailgate; huge oversight, or theyre just not explaining what Infinitis implementation does differently. I had high hopes for the QX50, but seeing the actual feature content and price compared to the European competition, I dont know what really sets this apart. Frankly, I think this bodes well for the upcoming RDX which, unlike this one, will actually have a class-competitive infotainment system.

This was on my list of vehicles I am considering to replace my 2016 Forester XT next year, but the fact that it is only available with a CVT just knocked it off the list. Until someone builds a CVT which can handle more than 300 lb. ft. of torque and can be rebuilt, I will never buy another vehicle with a CVT. I would also never buy a vehicle with a CVT with fake gear changes as the only option. That defeats the main benefit to having a CVT, the ability of a CVT to hold peak power. Subaru is doing the same thing as Lexus. I understand programming the CVT with fake gear changes to fool people as the default, but why wont Subaru and Lexus give us the ability to switch to a pure CVT mode?

First thing to notice is the high quality materials and manufacturing. This should be Japanese made like Q50. The industrial design is one of the high quality with elegance. not flashy as 19 RDX or NX. should age well. body panels looks like extruded not pressed. size and shape of each component is very well proportioned to have an elegant cute look. surprising why infiniti is not giving adaptive damping which is common and not expensive. Just adding a comfort mode. will make the ride a lot better. Acura gives on many models which brings that compliance; which Alex says missing. Though it is a landmark vehicle Alex gave it a cold review overall. -: )

Nissan/Peugeot/Infiniti had to create an overcomplicated engine with unknown long term reliability just to compensate for CVT shortcomings and keep up with competition. The new RDX with the same power output is a full second faster to 60 and if you are spending 50k on a car you dont care about 2 mpg. As far as the steering wheel not moving when the wheels turn, this is the Boeing vs Airbus debate. There have been Airbus crashes due to control sticks not moving resulting in pilot disorientation. When autopilot moves controls in a Boeing, the yokes and the throttles move in the cockpit.

I too noticed the gaps in the frontal area. Value? Possibly. The CVT? No thank you. But it the vario aspects of a new motor that forbids me to spend any money on it. Id pass until others do the 1st person/ownership headaches But by then it would appear to be too late for me and Im OK with that. Ive never been a fan of a CVT anyway, except in the Subaru line up, they have had the time to get it right. Nissan/Infinity however have had issues for sometime now and Ive yet to hear of anyone saying its fixed

Leave it to Nissan and Infiniti to either not have enough money to develop a new torque converter transmission thats more responsive. Q50-Q60 great engine old transmission. New Qx50 looks great inside and out. PUTS THE INFAMOUS CVT in it just to make u hesitate and look else where. Im guessing they look through the data and know something I dnt. They must have figured out majority of the buyers dnt care so they doing it or they just dnt have the money or big wig to roll out a new transmission yet.

Alex there are many purchasers who arw inner city dwellers. We experience pot holes horrible terrain and tons of stop and go conditions. I like your reviews but the driving dynamics including suspension and engine response will differ for our everyday driving experience. So you should soemtimes do reviews going through inner city like Brooklyn Queens etc. Just a suggestion because your reviews reflect what people in the country or suburbs will likely experience, not us
