Im going to show Landcruiser this video and see what they have to say about this review. Why are you talking about gas milage? Name other manufacturers that its in direct competition with that has truly capable 4wd with lockers, hieght adjustments that works, not like range rovers that work a few times and spend the rest of the time in the shop, and thats not got poor reviews or recalls due to unreliable and major recalls. You cant, cause you just want to hear your self talk, about gas mileage which is the only negative point to it to folks like you who cant afford, drive, or have a use for it. The G-wagon has triple lockers and a solid front axle which are great for off-roading I agree. but the land cruiser has A-trac which is electronically uses the ABS system to brake the tires that are slipping and and putting the power to the wheel that needs it. And the land cruiser will cruise down crappy dirt roads much better than the G wagon. Maybe thats why they are always wining Baja 1000s and Dakar races. When Ford Raptors either place behind them or break down and dont even finish. I dont recall a G-wagon ever winning. As far as the LX goes, I had both the LX you pay more and in the end the land cruiser sells for more in the used market. And are you kidding my youll rip the bumpers and running boards off the LX if you do any kind of serious off road. The land cruiser has much smaller side steps and the bumpers are much better for off-road. May get a litttle Road rash but wont rip off like the lx bumpers and steps will. my wife drives the LX now as a family car and a vehicle we take moderately off road other wise I take the old land cruiser out to go more serious stuff and camping. have you seen the rear wheel flex with kdss? If you cant flex you wont have traction period. which is why Solid axles are better for off reading. Yes land cruisers dont have that in the front because they opted for independent as a better option for what most people use land cruisers for. Getting to remote areas driving down crappy dirt roads. the land cruiser isnt a rock crawler obviously look at its size. I can go on and on as someone who has had 7 land cruiser and Lxs

I get that this vehicle is an off-roader above all HOWEVER it is also trying to be a luxury vehicle and a family hauler. I understand that some things are compromised for off road ability but theyre compromised a little too much. I think the third row should either be optional or just not included since its not very usable compared to other large SUVs. Also there really should be a diesel engine option in the US since fuel economy is important regardless of the mission of the vehicle (or Toyota should just redesign their 5. 7L V8 to be more efficient since it gets worse gas mileage and less power than GMs 6. 2L V8. Lastly the 4WD system should have a 2WD mode for normal on road driving. I know again this is an off roader above all and traction is important but people do still use these as daily drivers and 2 mode gets better gas mileage than 4 mode. Or Toyota should send the Land Cruiser back to basics of just being a tough off roader and make a true luxury SUV under a separate name. A personal opinion I have about this is that the Land Cruiser should just be its own thing and the LX should be based on the Toyota Sequoia so it can be more practical and more competitive with the QX80, Escalade, and Navigator. The land cruiser is trying to be an off roader, luxury vehicle, and family hauler but is a little low on luxuries and not very good as a family hauler. It should have one dedicated purpose to live up to the Land Cruiser name

Im an Australian with a 6yo Landcruiser Sahara and the 4. 5L twin turbo diesel. Its also chipped developing 238kw and 850Nm torque. Thats 320hp and 626 ft lbs in the US. It is used as a touring, tow and off road vehicle. At 180, 000km (112, 000mls) its barely run-in. And despite towing a 2, 900kg (6, 400lb) caravan for about one third of that distance, the Landcruiser drives like new, looks like new, apart from a little wear on the front seats, has only required routine services and one replacement set of tyres (though I did get rid of the original tyres when I bought it and replaced with Cooper AT3s, and average 20. 5mpg normal driving and 14mpg when towing. No way would any other 4x4 do what this vehicle does with the same level of aplomb and reliability. Over here, the Landcruiser outsells every other large 4x4 wagon by a large margin. For good reason. our roads away from the large cities are crap, the distances vast and remote which means reliability is a top priority. Sure Range Rovers are fancy with some neat do-dads, but they have terrible reliability when the tough stuff rattles their teeth. They dont call the Landcruiser the King of the Offroad without justification.

It is also the only vehicle built today with a 25 year minimum service life without major component failure in its engineering mandate. It is also the most off-road capable Toyota there is. The Tacoma TRD pro you likened it to is a disposable razor by comparison and is a package enhanced with aftermarket equipment. Ehance this with a few ARB items and OME suspension and there is no finer vehicle. The 70 series cant articulate anywhere close to how this can. Have a look at the frame and suspension components, they are built to such an incredible standard of engineering, as is the driveline. They are the vehicle of choice by Australian farmers and the United Nations alike. The Sequoia, while great is built to a cost in America, as is the Tacoma. This is built in Asako to Kaizen adhering engineers. Why buy this over the LX570? Its stealth wealth, better approach and departure angles and no AHC Hydraulic suspension if you wish to modify or overland. You really need to go and pay a visit to ih8mud. com and educate yourself.

Not a bad review, but the Yanks dont get it. Landcruiser has bullet proof reliability compared to Jeep and Range Rover/ Landrover etc. etc. In Australia its more expensive than in the U. S. Sahara around 125, 000 Aust. Lexus around 150, 000 - with that over the top grill. The Cruiser is sold here with the petrol V8 or diesel, and no one buys the petrol. It outsells the Range Rover/ Land Rover by 10 to one, not to mention the unreliable Jeep. They are the vehicle of choice for towing (3. 5 tons) and you see them everywhere. The Outback, towing horse floats, boats, trailers etc. etc. and will get you home every time. Dealership back up, and parts availability, are the envy of all other manufactures. The Yanks love their big pickups, and thats understandable - they are also sold here converted to right hand drive, and sell for the same price as the Landcruiser Sahara. They are nowhere near as reliable as the Japanese built Cruiser, and too big off road. The Cruiser is getting a bit long in the tooth, bring on the 300 Series.

Alex, since you really dont Off-Road or Overland much, you should stick to reviewing cars. You will not understand the priorities of these vehicles, which are quite different from say, a Toyota highlander. For instance, air springs is a no-no for serious off reading or over landing. The LX cousin is all show and luxury for people with deeper pockets, and yet you recommend that to the car buyer. Fair enough. One thing your reviews will never cover, understandably, is reliability and ruggedness. These are the highest priority for a Overlander. Towing, gas mileage etc are all important but not primary. You can mod a Land cruiser to match the best that they offer in South Africa and Australia, other than the diesels they have. However, HP has its advantages over torque alone even when off-roading, when momentum is critical, or desert running. BTW, 14. 4 mpg on your display isnt bad, you get 13 in the city sometimes in the real world with other 4 wheelers with 6 cylinder engines.

well the cruiser we got in the states is kinda the most plain cruiser cause in the UAE it has a lot of trim level starting from GX which is the cheapest and the VXR the highest or maybe the AX or ZX is the highest (i think) in there you could get a cruiser with 4. 0 v6 gas, 4. 6 v8 gas and a 5. 7 v8 gas or an diesel 4. 5 v8 twin turbo which is an option (according to wikipedia)and you could even get one with a stick (manual transmission) but it is rare the cruiser there has a lot of flashy chrome part and sometimes it has a chrome bodykit or whatever it is called on its bumpers and sometimes it has a 20 inch or 22 inch rims and it will come with an E - step board (on expensive trim levels) just search on google theres a lot of it for sale and BTW Trim levelsGX - is the cheapestGXR - MID range i thinkVX - MID range i thinkVXR AX ZX - HIGH END(search it on google)

Land Cruiser is like a reliable life partner, with whom you can go anywhere, however you want to. If you look online for a 100 series land cruiser they will most likely have one owner and over 200, 000 miles. I dont even know if you could find a Land Rover with 200, 000 miles or one owner. People who buy them actually keep them for 20 years. I just bought a 2000 land Crusier with 200, 000 miles and the most work he ever had done was a starter that went at 140, 000. People who see value in build quality and reliably find the Price justified
