Another stellar review, Alex After owning a Lexus ES-300 for 20 years of comfortable, trouble-free driving, I ordered its cousin: a 2019 Toyota Avalon Limited Hybrid. In my opinion, compared to the 2019 ES 300, the 2019 Avalon has a more luxurious interior (the available Cognac leather trim is absolutely stunning) a more logical and easier to navigate infotainment system, and fold-down rear seats, to name a few differences. And the Avalons hybrid versions are only 1, 000 more than their non-hybrid counterparts. However, most would argue (as does Alex) that the Avalons grill is rather polarizing than the Lexuss. But beyond that, I believe the Avalon is a solid alternative to the ES 399 for those seeking a luxury sedan without a luxury logo.

Great Job Alex, thank you for talking about the advantages of Nimh batteries, most other reviewers dont know anything about things like that. You should also mention the advantages of port injection / combined injection (both port and direct combined) vs direct injection, thats another huge advantage of the Lexus. Direct injection engines (all competitors use them) suffer from internal carbon build up due to their design and when they get older that causes extremely expensive problems. Their injectors are fragile and expensive too. Plus their emissions are much more harmful to humans.

These cars are simply outstanding. My last 3 cars have all been the ES. The first two were not hybrid. I put 200, 000 miles on each of them before selling to a friend and a relative. The one I drive now is the hybrid. It is now 5 years old, and has 84, 000 miles on it. Since buying the car I have averaged 34. 6 MPG. Have never done anything to any of my 3 ESs, except routine maintenance, tires, and 1 brake job on each of the first 2. Am still on the original brakes on my hybrid model. These cars are very comfortable. Moreover, these cars are RELIABLE.

i had the 2013 es350 i dont like the frankenstein bolts for sport/eco settings, i really dont like the new analog clock the steering wheel has to many buttons. the screen should be built into the dash and not sitting on top like a tablet. i liked the interior of the older one much better. i was never a fan of the exterior. if i was in that market again today i would probably go with the kia but that 40ish mpg on the hybrids tempting and way better than the 17 mpg i get right now.

Thanks for the review, Alex I do find it interesting that Toyota decide to put the Lithium battery into Camry LE hybrid out of all place because it is the least expensive vehicle where the cost saving would have been more a factor than a Lexus ES. I think I would get the Camry LE hybrid for my next car just because we drive in the city mostly so the extra performance from the battery would be helpful. Completely, off topic but are you wearing the Transition Xtractive lenses?

Personally I find the styling of these knobs a little unusual. You bet, I find it ugly. The dashboard looks like a funky animal looking at me with two pointy ears. I found the dashboard of the outgoing Lexus much nicer, but the outgoing version has this complicated and annoying mouse on the center console. I am sure it is going to be a great car, but I dont think the new one is going tobe my choice, unless perhaps I find a super discount, which is unlikely to happen.

After many years ownership of European cars, theyre such money pits for parts and depreciation afterwards. We now own Toyota CHR and Lexus NX. No problems and headaches, the only thing I dont like Lexus is media systems, so limit inability to navigate through street directories compares with Toyota touch screen. Sound dampening/materials goes into Lexus moreover better than Toyota, its helps to insulate from road noises.

Great review as usual. I agree the bolts are odd looking. I drive the current ES hybrid and it has been absolutely stellar with no issues. I average around 40-41 mpg in mixed driving which always amazes me for a vehicle this size. While I would consider this newer version when I go to replace it in a few years, it seems Id give up very little by simply going with the Avalon Hybrid.

I just purchased an es350 I wear a ponytail, it hits the headrest and if headrest is risen it hits the roof when the seat moves back and forward. Very annoying. also I was told that it was going to be compatible with android soon but you said it might not be able to upgrade. Not happy since I have android. I had an Es 350 2008 I believe I liked it a lot better.

Hybrid drivers are part of the solution and not part of the problem. They are ahead of the curve and talk with their eyes closed, because smugness has taken over. A giant smug cloud is always seen above the hybrid drivers house. In addition, hybrid drivers love the smell of their own farts. Good for yooooou Thaaaanks I can wait to get a hybrid, so I can be smug
