I continue to be impressed with how Toyota has put the RAV4 Prime together. In this video we take a close up look at some of the differences between the hybrid RAV4 with and without a plug

If Toyota hasn't changed the interior lighting in comparison with the hybrid version they can keep it!
It's terrible in the hybrid, as many important buttons such as the window controls for front passenger and the back are not lit, nor is the center console compartment or glove box lighted and not even the buttons for the panoramic moonroof are lit in any way!
Mirror adjustments buttons are also dark at night!
Sorry Toyota but that is embarrassing for a modern car and makes no sense whatsoever, as in the Prius and Corolla f. e. every single button is lit at nighttime as it should be in the 21. century!

My local San Diego County dealer has over 40 people on a waiting list for it. Expects fall availability. They should have a test model in the showroom by August. It looks like a perfect vehicle for short commutes. I've been looking at the Prius Prime, but the road noise is problematic. Looking forward to your July 1st driving test. I hope reality matches up to the hype. With a 150k battery warranty, it would make a great ten-year vehicle. You could easily save over ten grand compared to a gasoline SUV over that time period.

Not interested in plug ins unless they have at least 70 plus miles electric range. Batteries decay over time and you will lose your miles as time goes on. Plugins are worse on gas than their normal hybrid counter parts. So you only want a plugin if your in electric miles roughly 90% of the time. After all your already sacrificing space for the plug you bought for more money than the normal hybrid you could have bought.

Personally, I have ZERO interest in any electric vehicle. except golf carts on occasion. ;-)
Consequently, can't l say I'd EVER buy one.
My next Daily Driver (March 2021? Either a 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2 (in Sand Dune Metallic color) or the new 2021 Ford Bronco. TBD later when there's more info on the Bronco to do a serious comparison.

Worth pointing out that the heat pump will have reduced effectiveness in freezing weather due to frost buildup on the heat exchanger. Toyota acknowledges this themselves in the RAV4 Prime owner's manual. I'll be curious to see how it performs and the improvement it yields over the non-plugin hybrid when winter comes around.

I'm really surprised to hear about waitlists and deposits. I called two of the bigger Toyota dealers in the greater Boston area today. Both claimed no knowledge of when Primes would arrive or would even be officially released, nor were they keeping waitlists. Is this a west coast vs east coast policy difference?

Mitsubishi Outback PHEV in Japan has 2. 4l engine and 13. 8 kWh battery (2. 0l engine and 12 kWh in the USA.
It is still slow in comparison, but I do not understand why Mitsubishi is offering a two years old trim in North America. If anything, I would expect a bigger engine in America; )

So, if a mechanic had to deal with anything under the Rav4 Prime that is hidden by the battery, wouldn't that mean they need to remove the entire battery first?
Also, I think that Toyota is adding performance to PHEVs is going to help entice people to move away from ICE.

How often will have over 300 hp? What if the battery dies and just have the gas engine running or if you choose to go in EV mode for what ever reason? Can you always have 300 hp and will the gas engine charge the battery while you drive it or will you always have to plug it in?

Good luck getting one unless your on the west or east coast. Dealer called me last week and said none in the mid-west until 2021. They had me on list to contact and said they just got off conference call with Toyota and told none for this area this year. Much disappointed.
