Alpine has already wowed us with the A110 sports car, while its first EV, the Renault 5-based A290, is a hoot too. Now it's time for a more grown-up Alpine, in the form of this A390 crossover. This EV is still a prototype. A production car arrives in 2026. But with one electric motor at the front and two at the rear it will be able to torque vector its power so promises exceptional handling and agility. Join Illya Verpraet as he takes to a wet test track in an A390 well ahead of its debut. So far ahead, in fact, that most details are still a secret and the interior is still covered with bags. And join us over at autocar. co. uk for more car news, reviews and thrills.

So A290 will come with positive torque vectoring. Curiosity made me have a look at other performance oriented EVs that are equipped with it. Looks like Audi SQ8 e-tron, Hyundai Ioniq 5N, Lucid Air Sapphire, Maserati Folgore, Polestar 3, Porsche Macan EV, Tesla Plaid, Xiaomi SU7, Zeekr 7GT. Leaving off-road vechicles such as the Hummer out of it, which other street oriented EVs have it

Oh, what a disappointment again. Where is that sleek and low and wide concept car shape It is bulky, high, and common SUV-like thing again. why We would like to see sporty sedans/coupes with the design approach of how to make it light enough. chop 30 cm, loose 700 kg and we are talking.

I’ll second the comment about Illya’s presentation style, definitely one of the better presenters on Autocar. That plus decent audio and some lovely action shots, really well done! If every autocar video were this well put together I’d watch them all.

I know it’s me but I can’t approve this presenter. The speech, the voice, lack of enthusiasm, disheveled general looks. Good editing but unappealing choice of a presenter by the producer. He is unremarkable, just like that electric mpv.

not seeing the point of an sports electric suv. all the torque vectoring stuff won't manage to disguise all the extra weight it gets to carry. In the end you end up spending more for less performance compared to an a110s.

Alpine taking the same path as Lotus, from pure, light driver's car to overwheight oversized boring lump of dissapointment for people that don't care about driving feel or pleasure on b road.

Literally drove past one this morning parked up in Heanor Derbyshire. Can't for the life of me work out why a pre production car would be there. apart from getting a Costa

Alpine should now begin to show off the next gen A110 and communicate about it's chassis and powertrain. Fans are waiting

Can't wait to see full production model, if A390 drives at least half as good as A110 Alpine has EV driving winner
