The -1, 000, 000 Lightweight Jaguar E-type - technical insight and drive
video description
The Queen of England asked Jaguar to build a sports car for export, to bring in cash for English business.
She said she would help them set up a factory to build it if they co-operated, saying the first two years of
manufacture had to be sold overseas. The Jaguar D-type was already winning many Les Mans races,
and converted D-types were sold as E-types for two years before the factory was completed.
Back then I never heard of any type of light-weight Jaguars, and owning one, driving it hard,
I can't imagine it being any lighter without creating mechanical problems or staying on the road.
A long-stroke straight six engine with three forward gears, I went over 160 mph without dual carbs,
and if I had them the car would have gone over 200 mph, what Les Mans speeds were.
I have to admit, an all aluminum E-type, polished, not painted, that I have seen, is a very, very beautiful car.
My 1964 Fender Stratocaster looked good in the passenger seat, with my 100 watt Marshall amp in the back.
Even Jimi Hendrix didn't drive around like that. He went through black Corvettes, having many accidents.

My dad had a '69 4. 2 E-type, a neighbor(Also a Kemetian--black to those un-informed, got a Ferrari Dino, same color -Primrose Yellow-)I opened her up on I-80 while he was asleep next to me, just enouch to grab the attention of a Iowa state highway patroller going the other way. fortunately, my dad, 'cause his head was resting on his door sill, awoke and growled -slow down-! a few moments later, the highway patrolman slowly made his way by. now that I think about it, years later now, it's AMAZING he didn't pull us over(Two blacks in an exotic car, IN THE 7O'S) My father would smoke a spliff, and say(in Chicago)how many times you think we'll be stopped today? It was a running joke! I've had maybe 5 280-Z's the closest I could afford that resembled this car. -Memories-!

Wau-! Once I owned an XJ12-C in 'Sable' paint. The year 1976, Body made from 1975 to 1977. 3 years. an honest 152 mph at 6, 700 rpm. Don't ask me how I know. But it was on the newly built route 5 [The single nickle] toll road in Illinois near DeKalb. Early morning and not another car in site. Best driving car I never drove. Far better than my Jaguar Mkll, BMW, Mini 1275, or Mercedes Benz. Still wish I owned the XJ-12 C.

I was very fortunate to purchase a 1962 BRG 3. 8 E Type in 1964 for only $2, 940. 00 CDN.
The '62 was the first model to have 'internal' hood release latches vs. the exterior belted ones on the initial models;
I can't imagine trying to undo the belts in cold and/or rainy weather!
It was the love of my life for over 6 years and 50, 000+ miles of very memorable year 'round driving.

When the E-Type came on the market it became a instant hit and to this very day there are many many E-Types gracing our roads in Perth and around Australia. The E-Type was a very comfortable car to drive and although it had a top speed of 150 Mph I never went over 120 Mph, partly due to the fact that the roads back then were not condusive to traveling at 150 Mph

When evaluating compact British sports cars from decades past, the publisher should assign a journalist who is within, say, the 97th percentile of the overall population's body mass index (BMI. I don't know how they wedged this guy into the car, but from the inside he was so tightly squeezed his eyes were popping out.

The lure of the original from a collector perspective was the hand crafting, making each one unique. That being said, as a driver this version would be far more desirable.

Rather sad they wasted their time building a few toys for millionaires. The old jaguar would have built as many as they could sell and make them relatively cheap.
