New Mercedes S-Class vs Audi A8 vs Range Rover - Auto Express

With the first 3 German marks, in the range of 2010 up you will see thousands of them for sale at knock down prices. While a Lexus 2008/9 LS 460 very few and less money due to being older but still close to the German high prices. What does that tell you?
Then finish with the older XJ Sovereign and you find a few for sale and at decent money from 6 to 12 thousand Pounds. Why so few and why so sought after even after they ceased production in favor of the new one that's plagued with electrical problems as with the German marks.
And above them all, the Lexus LS 430 to LS 460 to GS 300 and 450H never appear to give any problems.
You cannot test a drive for quality without the important later review after say, 4/6 months ownership. All these guys are doing is good but irrelevant for the actual owner/drive. Naught to 60 shit with a difference of 2 seconds is immaterial for the intended use. Bottom line; Comfort, Safety, Style (as per individual tastes) cost of running/reliability are all that matters.
vs Diesel over petrol? If you get all you want as above it's worth the extra cost of petrol. period. By the way, The Range Rovers are also plagued with the new XJ with electrical problems but yet the Jag used, at the same year as the new S Class and BMW 7 and Audi A8 costs more? That I don't get. It's carrying brand loyalty to the extreme.
That's my view for what it's worth but everyone is different so I am not arguing with others. Just check owners reviews, they are more reliable but be careful to rule out idiots that bought clunkers and are blaming the maker for them being foolish not getting a warranty.

waft along? jeez. I stick my a8 in dynamic mode and it's still more then comfortable. responsive and agile yet not bumpy or stiff. Infact it rarely comes out of dynamic with either manual change or sports for the gear changes. Then again maybe i'm a keen driver. I guess thats the arguement. Yes the a8 is a great place to be behind the wheel. I attack the twisties in mine with a fury. It handles as well as my 3. 2 v6 Alfa GTA. The A8 goes hard, especially in petrol v8, a very rewarding drivers car indeed. Then back to drive and ACC on, massage seats on and enjoy the motorway home after ripping up the twisties in the national park; -)

The elephant in the room here, is the SUV nature of the Range Rover. If you want an SUV then. If you don't want one then. With the Range Rover you are buying a certain style of vehicle. So it is all a bit pointless really. The Range Rover is an bona ride SUV which aims to be luxurious, so really the only comparison is with other similar SUVs and now there are many.

I'm sorry if you guys are from England and you love RangeRover more than anything, But Range Rover is rubbish with poor interior quality and poor mechanical quality. I'm form the Middle East and the best way to show off is to buy a rubbish SUV for more than $70K and knowing that it will not survive fore more than 3 years. Thats why we buy Range Rover

If you must do a limousine test with these 3 vehicles, use Mercedes S Class long wheelbase with Executive Rear Seat Plus, Audi A8L also executive seats and lastly, use a Range Rover, SVAUTOBIOGRAPHY Long Wheelbase with Executive Rear seats. Anyway, Mercedes SClass is once again -The Best if Nothing. -

My previous car was an Audi A8L 4. 2Q (D3) and now S500 4M (w221) and although the A8 was an excellent car, the S-Class has this little bit extra luxury and comfort. On a 2000km trip, comfort will decide how broken you are at the end. I confirm, S-Class won for me.

My audi a8l has massage seats in both front, i dont have rear recline but mines is only a 2010. However the drive quality of the audi is way better than that of the benz or rover. Its a better drive being aggressive and quiet, instead of being calm and smooth.

Audi is better than the Range Rover on a normal off road also comfier and you all know that -, also it might not be as luxury as Mercedes maybe but is much more comfortable and safe than a Mercedes, don-t believe it try it.

if someone gonna buy these type of vehicle, they better get the v8s or v12s because these diesels, just sound ridiculous. would be better if you took the range rover super charged, the s65/63 and a8 w12
