I've had two mk1 MX5, they're brilliant little cars. If you feel 130bhp isn't enough then either you haven't driven an mx5, or you're imagining driving this along the motorway/autobahn/interstate at 100mph. Through the winding back lanes and b-roads of the UK at least, this car will be amazing. Plus you can drive it hard without losing your license, drive an S2000 hard and see how long you keep your license over here - if you don't stick it in a hedge backwards first; ) I also owned an s2000 ap1, and I miss the mx5 more, cars with character and I'm glad mazda are sticking to the formula for mk4.

All you guys wanting more power out of this car simply do not understand what the car is meant to be. It is a roadster. Everything, including the power, is fine tuned to the sweet spot of driving fun for a human being. Adding more power wouldn't make it more fun, it would make it too wild and it would be out of character for this car.
It's quite simple. This car knows what it wants in life. Test drive it and find out. If you want more power, you are shopping in the wrong category.

According to this totally unbiased review, there are no downsides or areas for improvement. What a non review! Every MX5 needs an engine upgrade in order to really get the car to flow as it should. The suspension is too soft. The steering column doesn't telescopically extend. The exhaust is a fart compared with sports exhausts. Designed by accountants.

I think the mazda is going to have a hard time in the US vs the FRS, they come in at very similar prices and it's not like the frs is that fat, the manuals are like 2750. and the after market bolt ons are everywhere if you just want a little extra power and sound. and thr subaru boxer is getting 200hp out of a 2. 0

I think it is a shame. great car with bad look: (
Aafter brilliant design of the Mazda 3 they came out with that messy design? If the rear, although too similar to some Alfa's models, is acceptable the design of the front is definitely ugly: (

Oh man, but I AM put off by that puny engine. 1. 5L? Come on, I get the hype and the back-to-basics lightweight roadster but still. I wouldn't enjoy getting smoked by any 2. 0 diesel sedan in a straight line.

They need to bring back a Mazdaspeed version. Pop a small, quick-response turbo on it, get it to 200-ish hp. It doesn't need to hunt Corvettes, but it should be able to at least out-accelerate a bloody minivan.

I just saw it in person at the auto show. It look way better in person, it has certain angles especially rear part that don't come out in pics or vids. My gf said if looked like the jaguar ftype too

I'm getting a 2008 mazda miata from my uncle with 100k miles for 7500. It is the soft top model and I think it is the basic model because it has no leather seats. Is it a good deal?
