NEW Tesla Model Y review: an impressive EV, despite flaws? - Auto Express
video description
With no parcel shelf supplied, the pounding of these tyres on the road, amplifies throughout the cabin to cause a reverberating sound pressure wave that assaults our ears, similar to the sound pressure -beat- when being close to a helicopter.
After Tesla Service Nottingham agreed this -was harsh to the ear- and then, gave us -they are all the same guv & it will wear off after 200 miles or so as the tyres wear in- typical dealer guff, we tried driving it again.
We got headaches after a few miles and our driver had to stop to throw up at 120 miles.
At 543 miles, the reverberation hasn't -worn off- and we can only reduce it a little by increasing cabin pressure via turning on -bio defence mode- or driving with the windows open - not a realistic option on motorway journeys obviously.
Tesla told us that we should approach Black Horse Finance - Tesla's finance partner in the UK - if we wished to achieve a -mutually satisfactory outcome-.
Black Horse Finance initially assured us that the vehicle will be returned to Tesla for a full refund and so, to stand by for their vehicle collection contractor to take it away.
Weeks later, it seems that Black Horse Finance may be going back on their word, after Tesla told them the same -they are all the same guv- guff and declined to fix it.
Apart from this obvious, fatal flaw, we love the car and would be very happy if Tesla fixed it.
Or, if Tesla took it back, we would happily order another one (maybe even a Model Y Performance) - assuming that to be booming reverberation-free - as we see from other reviewers that this problem seems to have been fixed on new production out of Giga-Berlin.
We have had a Model 3 Long Range for 2 years that we love and have a Model X Plaid reservation, that we are saving hard for, in the hope we can afford one when UK pricing gets announced.

I disagree. The Model Y is a great car. It's so far ahead of its competitors and is raising the bar for the industry. It's not perfect. The ride is a bit firm on bad roads and, like many modern cars, rear visibility is poor. But it makes up for that with an excellent rear view camera and others around the car that give you measurements from obstructions to the nearest inch! Over the air updates and improvements around once a month will improve the car well into the future and autopilot system is probably the best there is. And I'm sick and tired of reviewers complaining about the difficulties of using the touchscreen while driving. Of course that would be dangerous but you practically never use it when driving. Virtually all the main controls are accessed verbally, even the glove box, so you rarely have to take your hands off the wheel. When I hear such comments from reviewers, it makes me think that they haven't done their homework, haven't driven the car much, or are deliberately trying to mislead viewers.

So rear mirrors are fine to be commanded from the touchscreen because, rightly so, once set you rarely change the settings and it's something done not when moving anyway buuut it becomes for the reviewers a bad thing for the glovebox? Why people complain about this? It's brilliant! With that you have a locked glovebox that can be opened only by you, in a couple of seconds, being locked is a great place to store sensitive documents and if somebody force their way into your car it won't be able to open it and remove the memory stick containing the recording of him/her

I have owned a m3 for a year and a half and it-s great. It has poor fit and finish, uneven gaps between panels, that make it look it look like a home-made car, but it works great. I drove a model Y as a loaner and didn-t like it. Too top heavy and it didn-t seem as smooth, but if you have kids it-s the one to get. My neighbor has an e-tron and loves it, but with the lower range he has to use his gas Audi for vacation trips. Tesla has the tech but the finish and details are a bit off, door handles being my least favorite item.

I drive a model 3 shared car once a week (sr+ 18 inch wheels) and find the ride and damping excellent. Tesla cars weigh around 200 to 300 kg less then their rivals so can be softer sprung then their counterparts. Maybe if u only drive it on a backroad (like in the this video) its not mega soft but far from hard what is described here. Motorway and speed bumps are taken effortlessly. Please take a testdrive to check it out for yourself! Steering feel i find great also, responsive and well judged.

I do drive Tesla model 3LG for the last 3 months. I do love the performance and the screen. Ride is so so since I come from the Audi A4 2018 you can see how the car is way more loud at highway speed and the suspension is a bit nervous all the time. When the German come out with their own proper EV cars (not only SUV, like ID4) I will change back again. BMW iD4 is almost there but I dont like the middle tunnel and lack of interior space since it is based on petrol cars.

Once ive had my use out of my new G80 M3, itll be an 'i' car from bmw for me. Quality from top to bottom. Love Teslas infrastructure and battery tech and what theyve done for 'leccy cars but their products dont compete in quality stakes. From the build to the driving dynamics. Im sure Tesla will improve afterall theyre the newbies and havent 'alf made a big splash in a congested pool and theyre bound to improve relatively quickly. Not for me though.

My daughter owns one and I was so impressed with it that I-m getting rid of my Range Rover to buy one. There are plans in the works to improve the ride quality as well and a new battery has already been developed that will increase the range dramatically. Everyone else is playing catch up to Tesla. They also seemed to have addressed the earlier fit and finish that older models had.

Not having a physical button for the glovebox is actually brilliant because you can then set up a pin code to protect What's inside, and the USB drive that records everything is inside. If the USB drive was anywhere else, anyone could steal something in your tesla and the USB drive at the same time. So again, it's not a problem, it's a big advantage

Just couldn't help yourselves with the FUD title.
Actual review - a few minor negatives and a 4. 5/5, clearly best in class across many attributes. yet people who only look at the title would think otherwise.
Tssk Tssk.
The fact is, although there is quite a number of good EV options now, none are as capable overall as Tesla's are.
