I try to show you some of the re-installation process of these exhaust manifolds Ralfie: Nice videos Eric!
You need a set of drill bits with a left hand twist instead of the normal right handed ones for jobs like this. If for some reason you do end up having to drill those bolts out, using a left handed bit will spin a broken bolt right out once the bolt has heated up a bit from the drilling operation and then bites into the metal.
Those bolts aren't bottomed out in the holes when tight, so when the bolt breaks like those in the video did, what's left in the hole is essentially loose in the hole. Drilling with a left handed bit should theoretically spin it right out once the bit gets a bite in the metal.
Just an idea for you to try in the future if needed, I know for sure that it works because I do it sometimes at work.

I lived in NY for 53 years and just moved to Florida a few years ago. I have a 2002 Ford F250 that need a manifold job. I can see 2 bolts on each side that are rusted, missing nuts. Got a mechanic down here but when we discussed the job, he was hesitant. Priced the job at the Ford dealer and it's not that bad. The technique is the key. I'll make the reach that the Ford Mechanics working on 250's know their craft well enough to get it done. That said if I still lived in NY, I 'd drive to see Erik, take a room at a hotel and wait for the truck to be finished. Great Video, always enjoy a job well done.

An hour and a half per side? Who makes up these labor times? How long did the job actually take you? Im doing broken exhaust bolts on a 01 Yukon with a 6. 0, drivers side. Not as much room as you had on this. Been chasing a coolant loss with this vehicle since the customer bought it and determined its headgaskets so the heads are coming off anyway and Ill try the welder trick with the two broken bolts. Ive been watching your videos for about two weeks and after 43 years of twisting wrenches I continue to learn. Thank you.

Noticed on new manifold bolts there was a small area of copper coating. I always used nickel-cadmium anti-seize paste when installing steel bolts into aluminum heads. Eliminates the chance of breaking again or do you think breakage was the result of weak engine mounts or even bad tranny mount? Engine shifting position stresses bolts? What do think caused the bolts to break?

My vocational school teacher told me a trick with torqing spark plugs to around 15ft lbs. Use a 3/8 ratchet with one hand and with ur hand over the head of the ratchet. About the most torque u can apply is 15 to maybe 20ft lbs depending on ur size. So you could probably use that method on these bolts. Hopefully I explained it well wto understand through text. Lol

Perhaps the one thing I would have done first, and this is not a gripe or a complaint, just a thought. But I would've fired it up and ran it before I put the heatshields back on. Just because if you'd had a leak you wouldn't have to wrestle the heatshields back off.

More often than not, most exhaust manifolds from the factory use bolts. If there's room, I replace them with the appropriate length stud. I LocTite them into the head, wait for the compound to cure, then slip on the gasket, manifold, washers and nuts in that order.

one of the exhaust bolt on my Jeep is broken off when I tried to remove it, (it's partly because I was silly, didn't heat up the bolt. Going to attempt to weld a nut on the broken bolt. Do you disconnect the battery and PCM (or other electronics) before welding?

Hey, I just want to say thanks for uploading these videos. I am seriously considering a used Dodge Ram 09-12 for my next vehicle, after some research I learned this was a common problem. However these videos have eased some of my worry about the issue. Thanks!
