This is part 1 of a 5 part multi-part series I recorded replacing the head gaskets on a 2003 Subaru Outback, 2. 5L 2458CC H4 FI VIN: EJ253 Henry: Hello Eric. Thanks for spending time to make this video. I hardly work on cars. I just finish changing my 2006 Subaru forester head gasket by watching your video step by step. After new HG done, took for a ride, ran smooth on local and highway for total 90 miles. no more overheated. coolant is good. No more bubbles in coolant tank. Went to auto shop and pass inspection. Then I find out the engine has little shaking while it is in idle. Engine does not shake while driving and stop at red light. RPM seem is good or it won't pass inspection. Also my mechanic said the valve lifter is making a little tapping noise but it's save to drive. Is there anything I need to check? Is it possible on valve clearance? I did exactly the way you did from your video. Your help is appreciated. Wouldn't be able to do the job without watching this video. Thanks again.

Thanks for taking the time and effort making these vids. I just had that damn Radiator drain plug fail while jamming down the freeway and cooked my 02 WRX wagon. then got the dreaded water from the drain plug and oily gurgles in the expansion tank! So looking at head gaskets minimum, hopefully not a full rebuild as I got her shit down quickly and was running fresh premium synthetic oil. Happy to have a shop with a Bendpac in it to work out of. Edit: tore into it and had coolant pouring from the exhaust manifold!

Pretty tight working space in that compartment Eric, you are darn calm considering.
i bought an -06 with a blown head gasket one side for super cheap and going to watch your whole series of five vids before i even start work on mine, love your work by the way, good clear instructions and advice
Thanks for the time this must take to do and post.

Hi, great vids. Do you always replace the head bolts? Hay, I pulled my cylinder head off my 91 Isuzu 2. 3 and found a gap/burn in the gasket between the cylinders. When I looked down the cylinders and saw no cross hatching, do I need to hone them? Can I hone without taking out the pistons? I wasn't burning oil. Thanks
