Kia Sedona: P0016 Cam Crank Correlation Trouble: Part II

In a previous video I had a look at a 2010 Kia Sedona that has a code P0016. I found a bad cam phaser solenoid that we think is keeping the bank 1 cam fully advanced. It is time to pop in a new on and see if it solves our problem

Have you ever seen an issue where the van rapidly turns looses power and makes it feel like a buck? We've been to 3 shops and they cant figure it out. One of them had it for 2 weeks before he told me the teeth on the timing was off 5 teeth. He put a new belt on and every once in awhile it will start bucking. Not transmission related because engine RPMs drop instead of rise.

I can't believe you soldered that. Nothing like a little intense heat, vibration, and moisture to ensure a durable repair. Is there a reason you don't like butt splices?
Not only will that solder not last, but you doing that possibly made it so the next guy won't be able to fix it correctly without cutting out the ruined wire or replacing the harness.

So what caused the original problem? Was it just a blown sensor/solenoid, or did some engine/computer anomaly cause the sensor solenoid to go bad? Chicken or the egg?
Can't be just slop in the chain or one would think the comparative waves would vary? Be curious if the car continues to run well or if it deteriorates again.
Great videos Eric! Jim.

Nice work & an excellent result. As an Australian of British descent, I DO pronounce the 'L' in 'solder' (as is traditional in my part of the world) - but that surely doesn't mean that you have to (what a strange thing to insist upon. Also 10: 40 had me in hysterics.

How did you put it into flood moad so fast. ? Did u have it up on the scan tool or did you just hold the pedal to the floor. I know if you hold some cars matted they will go into a kind of flood mode so that the car don't start if it's matted wide open

just a note, at around the 23: 30 mark, your TDC cursors are set for 360 degree but you're placed for a 720 measurement, which would make your 5 degree measurement actually 10 degrees. If you double click the 360, type in 720 for it to be correct

I was hoping Eric was going to have to change the phasers, chain, chain tensioner and guides, as I need to do that with my Sedona but I am afraid. I have that horrible chatter sound for 1-2 seconds on startup sometimes.

Eric, Can you or someone else explain the way you stick the wires together before soldering? I've been doing this stuff for a long time and have twisted the wires and am just curious why you don't twist but stuff instead?

Build a garage on to your house or have the hag park on the street and buy auction troubled vehicles running your own youtube diagnostic show! (Sorry bout the hag refrence, I don't know)

The wire repair made me have a solder smoke relapse. I had to go heat some up and inhale deep. Nice job Eric getting deep down into that hole to get the job done.
